Route Followed by the Author Through South Americas Southland. I THROUGH SOUTHAMERICAS SOUTHLAND CHAPTER I OEIGIN AND OEGANIZATION OF OUREXPEDITION No lover of wild nature can visit the equinoctial regionsof South America without experiencing, sooner or later,an irresistible desire to return to these alluring lands ofromance and enchantment. This is especially true, if onehas come under the magic spell of the great forests of theinterior of the continent and has had an opportunity ofstudying the wonderful fauna and flora which everywhereclaim his attention. It matters not that one has to roughit and endure all manner of hardships. These drawbacks, far from deterring one from his undertaking, seem, on thecontrary, to give it a peculiar zest which only those canappreciate who have been privileged to traverse the mar-velous regions that lie under tropical and sub-tropicalskies. I can testify, as one having experience, to the en-thralling character of this particular kind of wanderlust. For
