This he dashed over the injuredman with such effect that, in a few minutes, his con-sciousness returned. He was, however, so injuredby his fall as to be unable to walk, and feeblybegged Coacoochee to save himself and leave himto his fate. For answer the young chief, with anastonishing display of strength, considering his con-dition, picked up his helpless friend, slung himacross his back, and thus bore him nearly half amile, to where the palmetto scrub afforded tempo-rary concealment. Daylight was now breaking, and some means mustbe devised for moving rapidly.
