ja viimeisen lumisateen välillä 1891-96. työntämiä l:ja, joiden tukevia rautaisia lunii-siipiä voidaan tarpeen mukaan vipu- tai hammas-tankolaitteiden avulla levittää sekä nostaa jalaskea. Kuvattu Suomen valtionrautateiden lumi-aura on ratamestari Björkin patentin saanuttamallia; se on otettu käytäntöön Venäjälläkin.Rautaisissa Kissa siivet ovat useimmiten ruuvi-pinnan muotoiset ja niin sovitetut, että etusyrjätunkeutuu ensin lumen alle, jolloin vasta siipiheittää syrjään siten irroitetun lumen. Pyry-lumen tai lumivyöryjen täyttämien ahtaiden so-lien aukaisemiseen käytetään nopeasti kieppuvallaheittopyörällä varustettuja l:ja, joissa auranedessä oleva pyörä yhtämittaisesti siivilläänlapioi lunta heittäen sen kauaksi sivulle keski-pakoisvoiman vaikutuksesta. Tällöin täytyy l:ssaolla erityinen voimakone auran pituussuunnassakulkevalle vaakasuoralle akselille asetetun heitto- Keskimääräinen lumenkorkeus Suomessa cm*?*, 11—20 p. maaliskuuta.
