In Andibus Peruvise orientalibus, adarborum truncos in humidis.Obs. In this species, all the leaves, of both stem and branches, havethe margins so strongly recurved at the base that they seem cuneate,and the general outline of the leaf obovate, whereas when ilattened outthey are found to be widest near the base, i.e. obliquely ovate, or semi-ovate, rarely semicordate. In the variety Peruviana the whole plant hasa rufous tinge ; the leaves are rarely at all imbricated, and in drying themargins are so strongly rolled liack that the leaves seem widely-set andlinear ; yet when expanded by moisture their form and toothing are notsensibly different from those of the typical form.
