CLAUSS, I TUMOKS OF THE VULVA. 409 The most frequent seat of the tumor is in the lower portion of themeatus, where is found the nvula which I have described as normalin some cases, and its insertion is apt to be broad; but it may bepedicled or constricted at the base. The color of these tumors is oftenviolet or wine-color, and pressure turns them pale and also diminishestheir volume. The surface is smooth, easily torn, and bleeds withgreat freedom. General prolapse forms a cylindrical tumor, whichoccupies the normal place of the meatus and presents at its endan opening which is at times difficult to discover; it is seldom re-ducible. (See Plate VIII.) These tumors caase pain spontaneouslyand at the moment of urination or coitus, and they may be the originof vaginismus; ^^ there are also occasionally crises of dysuria andretention by reflex action.
