CASE OF OSTEOMYELITIS—AFTER OPERATION. 244 OS TEOMYELITIS-MA YFl ELD. Upon arriving at the Sanitarium, one and a-half years after the acuteillness, he presented the above conditions as regards general health. Theright leg was the site of two sinuses, one in the upper third and one in thelower third, through which considerable purulent fluid was discharged, andthe probe disclosed roughened stone and entered numerous cloacae. Theleft leg had a sinus in the upper third, through which a sequestrum pro-truded, and the probe came upon roughened and bare bone. Operation be-ing acceptable, sequestrotomy was accordingly performed on March 14.
Text Appearing After Image:
One large sequestrum protruding from the left tibia was chiseled awayand the loose granulations lying below scraped away. Each sequestrumwas surrounded by an involucrum, which was chiseled away. The necrosisextended to the epiphysis, nothing but a shell remaining after the sequestrahad been removed. The cavity was thoroughly packed with iodoformgauze, and aseptically enclosed in surgical dressing. Healing occurred bygranulation, and to-day the cavities are filled and a solid shaft replaces theremoved bone. This case has gone on to excellent recovery and consti-tutes one of a hundred sequestrotomies with good recovery. New Preparation..—The Rutter Pharmacal Co., of St. Louis, is manu-facturing an elegant preparation, known as Pheniline. It is a valuableantiseptic and is used both internally and as a topical application. EDITORIAL DEPARTMENT. Vol. II JUNE, 1895. No. 6. JAMES MOORES BALL, M. D.,FRANK PARSONS NORBURY, M.
