The carsof the Hudson Valley Railroad Company should be inquired forin Albany. This country is rich in picturesqueness and historic traditions.The cars run, for part of the way, along the old military roadfrom Fort Orange (Albany) to Canada. Up towards Schuyler-ville marched in Colonial days the warriors of the Five Nations.Close by here was the Revolutionary battle of Bemis Heights,in 1T77. Near here, also, Fort Saratoga was surprised and Cap-tain Philip Schuyler massacred. The old Schuyler Mansion isstill standing. Too, there is the spot, marked by a great tree,where Burgoyne surrendered to Gates, and a monument whosecornerstone was laid in 1877. Fort Edward was the scene of many frontier romances, andits life as a trading post began in 1709. All through this regionthere is a vast amount of history to be pleasantly unearthed.
