f guano. Onthe rocks hereabouts, bounding the coast, is some-thing white, presenting the semblance of hoarfrost, but which I am told is pearlash. PastQuilca,* twenty-five miles from Mollendo—a smallgreen bight being the only part visible adjoiningthe shore, and from whence olives, oil, andwine are exported. This place suffered muchfrom the earthquake of 1868. From Quilca,after a voyage of 119 miles, we have a look atChala—another of these small ports whereat thePacific Companys steamers call—also producingwine, olives, and wool.
