They all, at a superficial glance, appear normal, yet each ismarkedly defective, and each varies in marked degree from the other.The men on the extreme right and left of the back row are employees. CASE A.—Middle-Grade Imbecile, W. was 19 years old when photo was taken. The father, amachinist, was 27 and the mother 21 years old at the time of thischilds birth. He has a brother and a sister who are normal. W.speculiarity was first noticed when he was about 14 years old. He wasaffectionate, lazy, and untruthful, with sexual impulses always ex-aggerated. He was very obstinate. Great care was taken with hiseducation from the 14th to the i8th year, but he could not possiblylearn to read or write, though every effort was made to teach him.Yet he learned to count, had a great deal of native wit, and was so deftwith his hands that he became a good
