English: U.S. Army Pfc. Travis Smith dons and clears his M40 protective gas mask in nine seconds, during Task Force Maverick Spur Ride at the clamshell on Bagram Air Field, Afghanistan, Feb. 21, 2012. In an effort to earn their golden combat spurs, 26 participants comprised of Soldiers, Airmen, Sailors and civilians, completed a road march and tested their proficiency in various tasks such as land navigation, evaluating a casualty, setting the headspace and timing on a .50-caliber machine gun, and assembling M9, M4, and M249 weapons systems. |
