English: U.S. Navy Chief Petty Officer Miguel Alderete, left, with Navy Operational Support Center (NOSC) Ventura County, and Hospital Corpsman 3rd Class Chris Sunga, right, with the Navy Reserve Operational Health Support Unit, visit with Dale Vesper, a Vietnam Air Force veteran, during a Pearl Harbor memorial at the Shoreline Care Center in Oxnard, Calif., as part of the Spirit of '45 celebration Dec. 7, 2012. Organized by VITAS Innovative Hospice Care and Shoreline, the event featured World War II memorabilia from Touching History, a touring military museum, and a Prisoners of War/Missing in Action static display provided by NOSC Ventura County. The morning of Dec. 7, 1941, Japanese bombers staged a surprise attack on U.S. military forces in Hawaii. The day after the attack, before a joint session of Congress, President Franklin D. Roosevelt asked for a declaration of war against Japan and the U.S. officially entered World War II.
