English: Sailors with the USS Comstock transport equipment and research material for six National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) researchers onto an MV-22B Osprey on the flight deck of the USS Comstock, Aug. 8. Marines and sailors from the 11th MEU and Makin Island Amphibious Ready Group team recovered a total of 11 NOAA personnel from three isolated islands more than 900 nautical miles northwest of Hawaii and directly in the path of Hurricane Iselle. MEU aircraft transported the researchers to Midway Atoll where they could seek shelter from the storm. (U.S. Marine Corps photo by Sgt. Melissa Wenger/Released) |
