English: A close-in weapon system (CIWS) is fired during a pre-aim calibration aboard the aircraft carrier USS Harry S. Truman (CVN 75) April 21, 2013, in the Atlantic Ocean. The CIWS was designed as a naval shipboard point-defense weapon for detecting and destroying short-range incoming targets.
