Porträt Anna Dorothea von Kurland (1761-1821), geb. von Medem, Salonniére und Frau des letzten Herzogs Peter von Biron, Herzog von Kurland. Die Herzogin von Kurland ist als Pudel mit Porträtkopf dargestellt. Neben dem Titel "Herzogin von Curland" und einem Vers unter dem Bild, ist der linke Rand der Zeichnung mit einem großen und einem kleinen "P" versehen. - nachträglich mit einem Kreuz hinter dem Titel/Namen versehen [Bildunterschrift] Der Pudel durch Treu sich zeichnet aus/ Drum liebt ihn auch das ganze Haus.Biografisches Anna Charlotte Dorothea (1761–1821) ist bekannt als Herzogin von Kurland und gut vernetzte Salonniere. Die Tochter von Johann Friedrich von Medem (1722–1785), wurde in Mesothen in Kurland geboren. Dank ihrer Eltern genossen sie und ihre vier Geschwister eine gute Ausbildung im französischen Geist. 1779 heiratete Dorothea Peter von Biron (1724–1800), den damaligen Landesherren und Herzog von Kurland. Aus der Ehe gingen sechs Kinder hervor, von denen aber zwei (Peter und Charlotte) schon früh starben. Von den vier Töchtern – Wilhelmine, Pauline, Johanna und Dorothee – erlangten später die Älteste, Wilhelmine, und die Jüngste, Dorothee, einige Berühmtheit. (1) Anna Dorothea von Kurlands Musenhof Löbichau zog in der Zeit zwischen etwa 1795 und 1821 viele illustre Gäste an. Darüber hinaus unterhielt sie einen Salon im Kurländischen Palais Unter den Linden in Berlin. Per Kutsche reiste die agile, weltgewandte Adlige zwischen Paris, Wien, St. Petersburg, Berlin, Dresden, Karlsbad und Löbichau quer durch Europa. Wichtige politische Ereignisse ihrer Zeit – den Aufstieg und Fall Napoleons, den Wiener Kongress – verfolgte sie nicht nur mit Anteilnahme, sondern versuchte mit den ihr als Frau zur Verfügung stehenden Mitteln daran teilzuhaben. 1821 starb die Herzogin in Lobichau und lies sich auf eigenen Wunsch dort begraben. 1 Hofmann, Sabine und Klaus: Wo ich einst residierte – wo ich Fürstin des Landes war, Posterstein 2007, S.13. |
