I cut off from a dwarf Apple-tree e w thetop of the branch /, (Fig. 6.) which was aninch diameter, and fixed to the ftem /, theglafs-tube lb: then I poured water intothe tube, which the branch would imbibe,fo as to drink down 2 or 3 pints in a day,efpecially if I fucked with my mouth atthe top of the tube b7 fo as that a few airbubbles were drawn out of the ftem fo thenthe water was imbibed fo fail, that if I im-mediately fcrewed on the mercurial gage,m ry #, the mercury would be drawn upto r, 12 inches higher than in the otherleg.
