VILLAS AND COTTAGES. 253 DESIGN No. 22. (D. & V.) SUBURBAN HOUSE WITH CURVED ROOF. This design was prepared to answer the require-ments of a suburban residence for a physician, and isoccupied by Dr. Culbert, of Newburgh. As it is situ-ated on a corner lot facing the main street in the up-per part of the town, it was necessary to pay as muchattention to the side as to the principal elevation, andthe plan has been so made that a symmetrical arrange-ment is arrived at on both these fronts. The house isbuilt of brick and brown stone, the panels being re-cessed in the brick-work, while the pilasters and cor-nices are of stone. The roof is curved and coveredwith tin—the porch, the veranda, the railings, and thework on the roof being of iron. The plan may bethus described: A hall, 17x10, communicates withthe parlor and staircase hall, and also with a lobbythat leads directly to the consultation room.
