After graduating from Washington Academy, William and his younger brother Charles travelled up the Missouri to Fort Benton in 1867, where they worked for I. G. Baker and Company and eventually acquired the business. W. G. Conrad also established the First National Bank of Fort Benton. He later moved the bank to Great Falls and renamed it the Northwestern National Bank. In 1910 he established the Conrad Trust and Savings Bank in Helena. He also owned several other banks around the state. He also had holdings in real estate, ranching, and mining. W. G. Conrad married Fannie E. Bowen in 1876 and the couple had five children. Fannie Conrad died in 1911, and W. G. Conrad March 6, 1914 in Virginia. Abstract/medium: 1 negative : glass ; 5 x 7 in. or smaller. |
