June,1876, seven months from the time the societyhad resolved to undertake the work,a well-equipped party, eight in missionarynumber, were at Zanzibar pre- ^ou^nd^paring for their march to VictoriaNyanza. But three of them—the engineerand artisans—did not reach the goal to whichthe expedition was bound. One died on thecoast, and the other two returned home in-valided.
