A great deal of game came and wentbefore the light served for photographing.At least a dozen varieties of buck werenoticed, and quite a good sounder of wart hogswilled their fill and departed. I was am-bushed in a little thicket on the east sideof the waterhole, and to my chagrin all thegame approached and left from the westernside. But I would presently have the sunover my left shoulder, and knew that myposition was correct from a photographicstandpoint. To my left was a rather bushymimosa tree to which I paid but little atten-tion, my mind being centered on the dis-appointing beasts on the other side of thehole. The sun was well up and it was gettingwarm when I heard a patter of hoofs, and asmall herd of zebras trotted past me towardthe water. I got them in focus and wasjust about to press the release when a sud-den commotion convulsed them and theyscattered like a bevy of quail from a com-mon center. Raising my head with an im-precation at my beastly luck, the words froze
