His last achievement in this direction isthe organization of what is known as the Pike and Carson Club, which is des-tined to be a worthy Western prototype ofthe celebrated Boone and Crockett Club ofthe East. DALL DE WEESE. tion of the name, The Pike and CarsonClub, was an inspiration, and while de-signed to keep alive the memory of two meninseparably connected with the explorationand settlement of the West, stands for thoseprinciples and traits of character upon whichthe organization is founded. The pre-requisites for membership in thePike and Carson Club are American citizen-ship, ladies being admitted on the sameterms as men. The candidate must havekilled at least one specimen of three speciesof North American big game with a gun ina fair, honorable, sportsmanlike manner,without a guide, or to have made some explo-ration or original research of benefit to man-kind. The conditions imposed preclude mostpeople from entering the charmed circle, andthe constitution limits the membership toone hundred persons.
