Early in 1891 active preparations werecommenced for the appropriate celebra-tion of the four hundredth anniversaryof the discovery of America by Colum-bus. The act of Congress, which definitelyselected Chicago as the city in whichthe Exposition should be held, andwhich fixed the dates of the celebrationto be held in 1892, and the formal open-ing and closing of the Exposition in1893, was approved by the President ofthe United States, April 25, 1890. TheExposition buildings were located inJackson Park. Dedication Ceremonies. The grounds and buildings were sonearly ready that the dedication cere-monies were held in October, 1892.
