The following query was copied from User talk:Wsiegmund.[1] https://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?title=User_talk:Wsiegmund&action=edit Hi Wsiegmund, I noticed this edit on en:wiki, in which an unregistered user removed your pictures File:Speyeria coronis 3313.JPG and File:Speyeria coronis 3304.JPG from the Speyeria coronis page, with the edit summary "Picture was clearly Speyeria mormonia". I am not an expert with these species, but it looks to me like they are probably right (comparing the hindwing patterns with this page and that one). What do you think? --LamBoet (talk) 04:59, 29 January 2020 (UTC)Reply

I agree with you and the unregistered editor although I don't think the identification is as obvious as the latter suggests. The inwardly-pointed marginal silver spots, the greenish ventral hind wing disk, the minimal ventral forward wing reddish-orange flush, and the short rounded forward wings better match Speyeria mormonia washingtonia. I consulted "Butterflies Through Binoculars: The West", Jeffrey Glassberg (2001) and "Butterflies of the Pacific Northwest", Pyle and LaBar (2018) as well as the Butterflies of America images you cited.Walter Siegmund (talk) 16:43, 1 February 2020 (UTC)Reply
@Wsiegmund: Thank you for your research. We will have to rename and recategorize the files (4 files in the same series), either as "Speyeria mormonia", or as "Unidentified Speyeria" if you are not sure. Should I do it, or do you prefer to do it yourself? --LamBoet (talk) 02:52, 5 February 2020 (UTC)Reply
I moved the files this morning and fixed the descriptions. Thank you for your help. Walter Siegmund (talk) 16:28, 14 May 2020 (UTC)Reply
@Wsiegmund: Thank you. When you do this kind of thing, please don't forget to make the corrections on the Wikipedias that use the pictures. They were still used on some Speyeria coronis pages, I just removed them from there. --LamBoet (talk) 08:21, 18 May 2020 (UTC)Reply
Thank you for the reminder. Walter Siegmund (talk) 14:35, 30 May 2020 (UTC)Reply
