Hi, I was trying to convert this to a wave and I was having problems. Eventually I worked out the problem was it was not in fact an Ogg/Flac file but simply a Flac file. Note that there's a difference between a Flac file and an Ogg/Flac file. Some Flac tools and players assume files with the extension Ogg are Ogg/Flac and therefore treat them accordingly. This includes the Flac for Windows from the official Flac site. These tools will not work with a Flac file with the extension Ogg. For this and for common sense reasons, it's a bad idea to give an Flac file the extension Ogg. Only an Ogg/Flac (or Ogg/Vorbis etc) file should have the extension Ogg. If you are using a command line tool, specifying --ogg should output Ogg/Flac files instead of plain Flac. Nil Einne 11:26, 5 August 2007 (UTC)

You're right that .flac files are not allowed which is why instead of upload flac files by renaming them as .ogg you should convert these to ogg/flac files Nil Einne 08:35, 16 September 2007 (UTC)

Tip: Add categories to your files

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

[[Category:Category name]]

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

[[Category:Astronomical diagrams]]

[[Category:Comets]]

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").
