Convallaria

Hi Famartin - you have a handful of photos currently categorised in Category:Convallaria majalis. Not sure if you're aware, but the major botanical authority POWO (scroll down to "Accepted species") recently split the American native Convallaria populations as a separate species Convallaria pseudomajalis (syn. C. montana, C. majalis var. montana). Do you know (or can you find out!) if any of your photos are of native populations, or are they all European C. majalis (cultivated, and often naturalised / invasive, in eastern USA)? Or should they be put in Category:Unidentified Convallaria? Thanks! - MPF (talk) 17:49, 17 February 2024 (UTC)

Not sure, sorry! I guess unidentified is the way to go. Famartin (talk) 19:59, 17 February 2024 (UTC)
Thanks! I found a key eventually (Flora N America) and they key out as European; not too surprising in a suburban area I guess. There's already a category Convallaria majalis in Canada, so I'll make one for USA to join it and move them there along with a few others (the main species category is over-full with 300+ files!). - MPF (talk) 22:03, 17 February 2024 (UTC)

Metacats

Hi, Famartin. I saw that you reverted my change to Category:Road signs in New Jersey. That category is not a metacat. What makes a metacat is not what's in it, but what can be in it. The name of a metacat has to indicate what the sorting/grouping criterion is, and that criterion also has to be reflected by a parameter in the metacat template. Neither of those is the case here (nor on any of the similar categories for other states).

The best that could be done with the category as it is named is to put {{Categorise}} on it to let people know to use subcategories whenever possible. I'm going to do that. Please don't put the metacat template back. Thanks. -- Auntof6 (talk) 13:55, 14 March 2024 (UTC)

Interstate 295 in Maryland vs. Interstate 295 in Virginia

Why do you keep trying to merge categories for Interstate 295 in Maryland with categories for Interstate 295 in Virginia? They're not the same roads, so the signs for each should not be associated with one another. --DanTD (talk) 15:10, 15 May 2024 (UTC)

Not merging. They are road signs for I-295 in Virginia, but referring to the I-295 in Maryland. Famartin (talk) 15:33, 15 May 2024 (UTC)
This wasn't meant for the I-295 in Maryland. It was meant for the one in Virginia. So, you are merging them. --DanTD (talk) 16:41, 15 May 2024 (UTC)
The categories you made are not specific. They just say "Road signs related to Interstate 295 in Virginia" and "Road signs for Interstate 295 along other roads in Virginia", so the signs in Alexandria area qualify since they are signs for Interstate 295 located in Virginia. In order to truly separate them, the Virginia-only segments you created all need to be renamed from "in Virginia" to "(Virginia)". That would force a separation. Famartin (talk) 16:44, 15 May 2024 (UTC)
I thought the distinction between the two would've been enough, but I can get behind this move. ----DanTD (talk) 16:58, 15 May 2024 (UTC)

Cross Bronx and Bruckner Expressway route splits

Hey, I was considering splitting segments of the Cross Bronx Expressway and Bruckner Expressway by separate Interstate highway designations too. I knew I should've done it earlier, but I'm glad you did it. --DanTD (talk) 15:25, 19 May 2024 (UTC)

Cool. Reason for it is I’m planning some photography up there soon. Figured I’d get ahead of it on the category side.Famartin (talk) 15:34, 19 May 2024 (UTC)
