If you need a sound sample in some future time…

Hi again, Huntster.

In case I disappear not only from Wikipedia, but forever, I want to bequeath to you some legacy )). Remember my searches of female english-speaking 'radio reciter/announcer' to record a sample for Jezero?

I want to replenish your database of Russian-speaking readers with my contribution. Open this youtube clip (translated title - 'Why Ingenuity's flight became possible'). Enjoy the rare tone which is called 'silver'. Enjoy her hammered, precise pronunciation of all consonants. One Russian saying for this case (in my translation) is: 'words repel of her teeth' (cf. 'bullets repel of my medals' from one Alice Cooper's song).

Alas, my praise of this blonde does not go beyond this point. „Ears wither” if you dare to listen carefully, what nonsense she carries (your luck is that you presumably do not know the oral Russian speech). Only a blonde (in wider sense) could first translate, and then voice "wind from 5 to 10 m/s, with gusts up to 3 m/s". You shall LOL: the first two figures in original English were the Ingenuity's vertical and horizontal speed, and the figure for 'gusts' was the martian wind itself.

As a teacher, I am strict and demanding. Were it in the blessed Mark Twain's time, I should not spare the rod until the brains of this blonde become equal to her pronunciation. However, I have a more effective rod that never wears out - this is my tongue. She was thrashed with my devastating review at the discussion page of her clip. You may easily find it with a text search of my Wiki nick on that page and then translate it into English (she answered me from the account of her channel, Science Daily).

By the end of her sobs she gave me her mail asking for support. This mail may be a point of contact for you - if in some future time you may need the voice sample of any Russian word. Note that technically her studio is professional: a fair microphone, noise suppressed, no children cries in the background )) etc. Reminding me as the recommendor is not necessary: she posted her mail in the public space, from where anybody from her channel visitors may use it to throw PM. I'm sure she shall be excited to get the invitation from America to register at Commons as the supplier of audio tracks in Russian by users' request. If it happens in reality, let that be the God's reward for her sufferings in one deserved punishment. — anonym 78.106.206.99 22:41, 13 February 2022 (UTC)

Haha, yes, I see what you mean about the very precise tones. It goes beyond even "announcer voice", which tends to have at least a touch of conversational tone. This is someone who is too aware of being recorded. Still, useful for its intent. Thanks for the pointer, and I shall remember it should I find a need for recordings. Huntster (t @ c) 03:31, 14 February 2022 (UTC)
Further developments. The fate of the text for her next clip she sent me for "consultations" was predictable: two thirds were rewritten, expanded and rearranged… The last one third went intact: I was too tired. The text did not fit under the clip, however this is my first publication on Venus, and the first being read on Youtube)). The readers’ compliments «this is much better and fundamental than the previous» warmed the heart of old demanding professor, and that was his best reward.
The 'vrai raison' of my writing is my 'official' search/upload request. I put the 'anonymous' signature here and proceed in the following. — anonym 95.24.227.238 01:39, 25 February 2022 (UTC)

Search + upload request

Hi, Huntster. I kindly ask you to upload the illustration from page 11 (of 58) of m2020_lsw_day2_19_Jezero_Final.pdf file. Please correct articles, punctuation and wrong words… sorry I make mistakes.

Proposed name: Landing ellipse at Jezero crater as seen in October 2018
Proposed description: Variants of traverse routes for Perseverance rover in assumption of the Eastern and Western deviation from the center of the landing ellipse as seen in October 2018
Long description: This image was presented by Sanjeev Gupta and Briony Horgan on behalf of the Mars 2020 Science Team Landing Site Working Group at the 4th Landing Site Workshop (October 16-18, 2018). By the time of launch at 2020 the center of the planned landing ellipse was moved closer to the 'Three Forks' of Neretva Delta, roughly 1.7 km NW from the point shown here. By coincidence, on February 18, 2021 Perseverance landed almost exactly in the center of the 'old landing ellipse'.

Date: October 16, 2018
Proposed categories (some may be omitted):
  1. Photos of Syrtis Major quadrangle by HiRISE
  2. Landing site of Mars 2020
  3. Ground tracks and flight paths of Mars 2020 vehicles
  4. Perseverance rover
  5. Mars 2020
  6. Jezero (Martian crater)

Clipping: Only map (gray background only). To be cropped out: logo + 'Notional Mission Scenario for Jezero crater' title

Bad news: I cannot find the url of this file in the history of my upolads. The workshop materials are here, but I cannot find my file these entries. It's a big file (248.913.908 bytes.) Sometimes it's easier to write about Venus from the scratch for the blonde than to find the records for myself at my own computer…. — anonym 95.24.227.238 01:39, 25 February 2022 (UTC)

Found the file at https://marsnext.jpl.nasa.gov/workshops/2018-10/PRESENTATIONS/m2020_lsw_day2_19_Jezero_Final.pdf. Just a placeholder until I'm able to work on this. Huntster (t @ c) 04:28, 25 February 2022 (UTC)
Hey, are you wanting to keep the "Option 1/Option 2" box? Or literally just the gray background excluding the white box? Huntster (t @ c) 05:06, 25 February 2022 (UTC)
Yes, both options, Eastern and Western Landing, should be visible. With maximum gray 'ribbon' above them — anonym 95.24.227.216 06:39, 25 February 2022 (UTC)
See File:Landing ellipse at Jezero crater as planned in October 2018.png. Hope this is what you were looking for. I decided against the last three categories as redundant to the first three categories. Huntster (t @ c) 07:59, 25 February 2022 (UTC)
Saying 'thank you' is saying nothing, and the synonyms proposed by Google look dull against my real feelings of gratitude. English improvement was one of the most valuable worths I've got after several word-by-word comparison. And the file itself shall serve me as another one sample. After I finish with re-writing of the relevant 'chapter' of the Jezero article your work shall begin the gallery of the route-planning history. Thanks alot and best wishes. — anonym 95.24.227.216 04:18, 26 February 2022 (UTC)

Eruption

Hi, Huntster. I have plan make include to 2022 eruption series to 2022 Hunga Tonga eruption and tsunami, because GVP say is clearly that is stating to 20 December eruption, i going to stop include to 15 January as your edit summany to prevent edit war. HurricaneEdgar 02:48, 28 February 2022 (UTC)

HurricaneEdgar, I'm familiar with GVP. Please treat that as the eruptive series, rather than the singular event on the 15th, which specifically caused the large Richter scale event and tsunami. So, the 2021-2022 category should encapsulate all media from this series, the 2022 Hunga Tonga eruption and tsunami should be about January 15. I'll create a Wikidata entry about the series as soon as I have time, hopefully tomorrow. Huntster (t @ c) 03:04, 28 February 2022 (UTC)

Fire drills

Hi Huntster,

I'm currently trying to find a clear difference between Category:Firefighting training and Category:Fire drills. Do you have a suggestion?--Wochenbett (talk) 16:59, 6 March 2022 (UTC)

Wochenbett, hello! So Firefighting training would be the training that firefighters do to combat fires. Fire drills would be what regular people practice occasionally in case of fires; how to properly evacuate a building, how to use a basic fire extinguisher, etc. So, "application" vs. "practice", "approach" vs. "retreat", or "professional" vs. "amateur", I guess you could say are the differences. Does that make sense? Huntster (t @ c) 17:10, 6 March 2022 (UTC)
I thought so as well, but currently Category:Fire drills only contains "spraying with a hose" and "first aid". Real evacuation activity was hard to find and I've put those into Category:Evacuation drills.--Wochenbett (talk) 21:03, 6 March 2022 (UTC)
Wochenbett, do as you see fit, but I would suggest that Fire drills might be better as a subcategory of Evacuation drills, since evacuation drills can possibly be for a variety of scenarios. I agree, though, that all these concepts tend to intermingle and can be somewhat nebulous. Huntster (t @ c) 23:55, 6 March 2022 (UTC)

Hi Huntster, I've now came to an conclusion: May you please be so kind to move the entire content of Category:Fire drills into Firefighting training? I don't think that my user account would yet permit so. Thank you very much in advance!--Wochenbett (talk) 10:13, 7 March 2022 (UTC)

Wochenbett, I cannot in good conscious support such a move, since, while they fall into a general category of fire safety, they are distinctly separate things (as said, firefighting vs. evacuation). I will not stop you if you wish to do this yourself, however; images can be mass-moved with the Cat-a-lot gadget. You might instead seek additional opinions at Commons:Village pump, as this isn't a race. Huntster (t @ c) 13:39, 7 March 2022 (UTC)

File upload request

Hi, Huntster. I am awfully sorry, but the history of Ingenuity continues and needs a new map, and in my turn I again need your kind help.

Description location: https://mars.nasa.gov/resources/26605/ingenuity-flights-to-the-delta/
File download location: https://mars.nasa.gov/system/downloadable_items/47061_PIA25080.jpg
File name for Commons: PIA25080-Ingenuity Flights to the Delta.jpg
Short description: Multiple flights and two different routes for Ingenuity helicopter on its way to the Neretva delta in Jezero Crater.
Long description (two paragraphs): This annotated overhead image from NASA’s Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter (MRO) depicts the multiple flights – and two different routes developed for the Ingenuity Mars Helicopter in March 2022. The location of Ingenuity as of March 14, 2022, is indicated by the red dot. This map is made using images from MRO’s High Resolution Imaging Experiment (HiRISE) camera.

The first flight in this series (indicated by the number 1 in blue) occurred on March 10, 2022. The next flight supposed a sharp bend in the course to avoid a large hill, however on March, 20 the helicopter prematurely landed at 70.4 meters from the departure point. After reattempting to fulfill this part of the flight plan the helicopter team will consider which of two routes to take. The first option requires two flights to reach the base of the delta. The second option is more direct, necessitating only one final flight to reach the same location.

Drbogdan: Why that person uploaded a low-resolution version in a webp format, I'll never know. I've uploaded the full resolution version at Three-color image of galaxy HD1.jpg and redirected the previous file. Huntster (t @ c) 07:32, 8 April 2022 (UTC)

@Huntster: Wow - that was fast - and - done very, very well - Thank You *very much* - it's *greatly* appreciated - as for the previous uploader User:Space pierogi, seems to be new to all this, and may need some time to fully understand how best to upload such images I would think - perhaps from your example with this - in any case - Thanks again for all your own efforts - and - Stay Safe and Healthy !! Mars Sample Return Map: display methodology issues

Hi, Huntster! Last December our colleague Chinakpradhan has laid a good tradition of uploading maps for the M-2020 sample return cores: [File:26464 samples map cores web.jpg]

As it could be expected, an updated version of this map appeared recently; now as a slide in Lori S. Glaze¹s presentation (link for the PDF upload. Since Lori is the highest-ranking NASA director in this sphere (Planetary Science Division) this version of map has a high probability to appear in the PIA catalogue. One does not need to be a prophet to prognoze that 2nd, 3rd etc. versions of the map shall appear in future: this tradition still continues in the MSL Curiosity mission, almost with the same design.

Let's look at this perspective within the Commons' administration FOV. If each new map of this kind shall be uploaded as the new file with its own name, then the uploader shall face the necessity to run through all the articles where the previous version is displayed (now there are seven including two in Chinese). Meanwhile Chinakpradhan has a long (and I shall add, a very good) practice of refreshing the same file he initially uploaded - I mean his maps of traverse routes for Curiosity and Ingenuity. Routes change, but the file name remains the same and the illustrations in the articles are always fresh.

I am sure that you shall make the best choice between these two different patterns of bringing the fresh maps

(1) either uploading of new files under the new names or
(2) starting a single name like 'Map of abrasion and core samples in the Mars 2020 mission' with the new versions uploaded by necessity.

P.S. If you choose (1) and use my link to PDF: exporting page 3 to the file '06 glaze 20220321-ssb-final_003.png' at 100 dpi resolution returned 970 x 750 image after cutting blue margins at sides. - anonym 95.29.45.58 10:14, 27 March 2022 (UTC)

UPD: a nice version from USF... although JPG (( - anonym 95.29.45.58 14:26, 27 March 2022 (UTC)

Interesting issue. What I'm going to do is merge Perseverance Sample Tubes by December 28, 2021.jpg and 26464 samples map cores web.jpg to one image to document the 1-5, upload a single 1-8 version, and then create an image that is continually updated as more samples are created. There can be both standalone and updated images...Commons isn't hurting for disk space!
C, would you mind if I renamed that first image to something like Mars 2020 Sample Collection Map, Cores 1-5.jpg so I can build a naming standard (the new image being ...Cores 1-8.jpg)?
Also, I can extract the PDF image into a 3300px-wide copy, so that'll be the best option. Huntster (t @ c) 19:47, 28 March 2022 (UTC)
You shall laugh. Day after day, during the entire week I kept on visiting your page... being sure that you addressed our colleague (C)hinapradkhan and his version of file. I even did not dare to look inside to see the hidden link)). But this not all. A few minutes ago I came across Mars 2020 Sample Collection Map, Cores 1-5.jpg, so to say, 'from another end' (was looking for a link sample). Was very surprised: "how could I forget about this upload! I must go to Huntster to tell him, that another version exists, alongside with Chinapradkhan's" )))
Result. Certainly. Permission is given... for both)))
P.S. Adam Smith was also known for his fabulous abstinence. One morning leaving his home for the lecture he sticked a note on a door: "Adam Smith is not at home". In the evening he returned from the college and read this note. - "Not at home? Alas!" - and with a sigh set his way back to the college. - anonym 92.100.192.48 01:57, 4 April 2022 (UTC)
Not a problem, lol. If you notice new versions in the future, let me know and I'll keep things updated. Huntster (t @ c) 03:05, 4 April 2022 (UTC)

Just telling something in this closed decision as users need updated info each time we don't need a new page before the perseverance and curiosity map I got this idea from the page File:Visiting Vehicle Launches, Arrivals and Departures.png @92.100.192.48 credit it for my tradition. Chinakpradhan (talk) 16:23, 9 April 2022 (UTC)

There are hundreds of images replace every time in that page. And I uploaded a new version just now. Chinakpradhan (talk) 16:23, 9 April 2022 (UTC)

And @92.100.192.48 these days you see a halt in my discussions with Hunster as I directly interact with the persons on Twitter https://mobile.twitter.com/chiragp87233561 and clear my doubts with ErickSoares3 through direct twitter messages we collaborate together in discussion on Wikimedia files. Chinakpradhan (talk) 16:37, 9 April 2022 (UTC)

I'm not sure what you're wanting, Chinakpradhan. It's your choice to not interact with me anymore, but I don't understand why. Huntster (t @ c) 18:43, 9 April 2022 (UTC)
No no you are still my ideal, Huntster. Thing is I don't get too big issues like I had earlier so that's why (those days I learned from you every day) and second is time management. Kinda waiting for those big issues still, so that I can interact any time with you. Not wanting you to disturb for too minor issues. I just give it a bit halt, not complete stop. Chinakpradhan (talk) 00:42, 10 April 2022 (UTC)
Chinakpradhan, I understand, but do know my talk page is always open for you, no matter how big or small the issue is. Huntster (t @ c) 02:55, 10 April 2022 (UTC)

Ok thanks Chinakpradhan (talk) 03:06, 10 April 2022 (UTC)

Air pressure

Hi, Huntster! I have a couple of bad news)). The worst (two image uploads) shall be brought after this one (category trees' garden replanting) which is expected to be a more pleasant job for you.

One of categories of PIA16912-MarsCuriosityRover-SeasonalPressure-GaleCrater.jpg, that is 'Pressure' obviously needs a separate sibling extension. Actually the 'Air pressure' already exists as a redirect to the 'Pressure' category; I think it must be shown as a separate entry in the list of the 'Pressure' subcategories.

Shall it need the next sibling level for the Earth and the planets? My IMHO: there are not so many paintings of the „Air pressure on Mars” etc. to justify their allocation in a separate room at your museum )). Whatever you decide, I warn )) you that very soon I shall ask you to upload one more - that is PIA25211, but this request is complicated and shall be placed separately.

Sincerely, — anonym 95.29.43.30 09:40, 9 April 2022 (UTC)

Done: added Category:Atmospheric pressure. I don't yet see a reason for a whole new category tree just for Martian atmospheric qualities. Huntster (t @ c) 17:15, 9 April 2022 (UTC)

File rename request

Mslp-jja-djf.pngMean sea level pressure.png

Also, please categorize it as 'Air pressure'. Sincerely, — anonym 95.29.43.30 09:48, 9 April 2022 (UTC)

Not done, as the existing filename is unique and descriptive, and would fail our renaming policy. Also did not change categories as Centers of action (Meteorology) is a subcat of Atmospheric pressure -> Atmospheric pressure maps. Huntster (t @ c) 17:13, 9 April 2022 (UTC)
