Could you maybe please rename files? edit

Could you maybe please rename the files:

File:Team China.jpg
File:Team Japan.jpg
File:Team USA.jpg
File:Team Russia.jpg
File:Team France.jpg
File:Canada team.jpg

These are very common names for files. There are many times when there is a "Team China" and "Team Japan" and "Team USA" and "Team Russia" and "Team France" and "Canada team". Could you maybe please rename these files to names maybe like "Team China 2009 World Team Trophy" so the name is more specific?

Thank you very much. 70.20.76.10 18:35, 25 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

Рейксмюсеум edit

Hello Luu, Thanks for the Russian text on Category:Rijksmuseum Amsterdam. I want to start a Template:Rijksmuseum. If I were to say "Rijksmuseum Amsterdam" in Russian, would that be "Рейксмюсеум Амстердам"? Regards, Vincent Steenberg (talk) 11:45, 13 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

Hello. Yes, you can say "Рейксмюсеум Амстердам", but the article in ru.wiki has a name ru:Государственный музей (Амстердам), because the word "Рейксмюсеум" is just a transliteration «Rijksmuseum» and has no meaning in Russian language. Sorry for my English.--Luu (talk) 15:54, 13 May 2009 (UTC)Reply
PS:«Государственный музей (Амстердам)» a literal translation from Russian to English - «State Museum (Amsterdam)»--Luu (talk) 16:00, 13 May 2009 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for the information, I made the Template:Rijksmuseum and implemented it in File:Aertgen van Leyden 001.jpg. I hope it shows ok. Regards, Vincent Steenberg (talk) 17:10, 13 May 2009 (UTC)Reply
Wait, I have another question. How would you say "The Rijksmuseum Amsterdam is a state museum in Amsterdam" in Russian, using "Рейксмюсеум Амстердам", "Государственный музей" and "Амстердам"? Or is that impossible? Regards, Vincent Steenberg (talk) 17:16, 13 May 2009 (UTC)Reply
You can say «Амстердамский Государственный музей - Рейксмюсеум». --Luu (talk) 18:38, 13 May 2009 (UTC)Reply
ok, great. Thank you. Vincent Steenberg (talk) 20:41, 13 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

File:WC2004Eistanzen 1.jpg edit

Hi Luu, why did you remove the category "Ice dancing" from File:WC2004Eistanzen 1.jpg? Although the skater's names are not known for sure, there is no doubt that they are ice dancers, not pair skaters. Thus category "ice dancing" is a valid, and non-redundant classification. --JRff (talk) 21:36, 4 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

Hi, I did not like the fact that in the category where all accurately, and in which all the dancers are placed in folders, hanging restless this file (the practical value to Wikipedia it will not be - murky photo unknown persons). Today I again tried to identify these skaters and again unsuccessfully. According to technical information file photo taken 03/23/2004 and in the description file, there is evidence that the Free Dance. But here the information that was 03/23/2004 Compulsory Dance. I do not know how to understand someone in this photo. Sorry for bad English. --Luu (talk) 19:32, 5 July 2010 (UTC)Reply
Did you notice my comments on the discussion page for the file?
I would not take the file description too serious. The original uploader just did not remember. I talked to him once on his discussion page. But even if you do not believe the time stamp from the camera, just take the list of participants here and eliminate all who cannot be on the picture:
You can eliminate the first 10 pairs in the list at once, because these skaters are so famous that everyone who has watched competions over the last few years can tell that they are not on the picture. The same is true for place 20 and 14, because Pechalat/Bourzat have been very close to medals during the last season and Kerr/Kerr have been among the most popular ice dancers for years.
From the remaining places I can eliminate some at once: I have seen Fraser/Lukanin and Grebenkina/Azrojan in competitions and they look very different. Nora Hoffmann and also Dmitri Matsjuk were competing in the last season, although with different partners. Therefore I would recognize them for sure, if they were on the picture, even if you take into account that hair can be changed and that our image is six years old.
Everybody sees that the people on the picture are not native Chinese or Japanese. Therefore places 17 and 22 can be eliminated after a look on the ISU biography pages.
For the rest of the skaters (places 12, 13, 15, 21, 23-26, 28, 29) I had to perform an internet search. I found pictures for Gregory/Petukhov (12), Kulikova/Novikov(13), Gudina/Beletski (15), Buck/Nelson-Bond (26) from which I can say that they are not on our picture in question (even if they underwent serious face surgery :-).
Now places 21, 23- 25, 28, 29 are left, were it is not so clear. I found that Clover Zatzman and Aurimas Radisauskas (29) on the photo here look so much like our skaters that I suggested this on the discussion page. I did not write this into the image description, because I cannot be strictly sure without good pictures of skaters on places 21, 23 -25, 28, although I find my suggestion very likely after looking at the available images on the net.
Much effort anyway about a rather blurry picture with little known skaters, but unfortunately Commons does not have many pictures that can demonstrate ice dance holds. That's why I invested all the time in this one. --JRff (talk) 21:33, 5 July 2010 (UTC)Reply
I debated just like you. I am embarrassed that there are pictures Clover Zatzman and Aurimas Radisauskas at the European Championship 2004 (same season) and they have completely different costumes. But if we accept that this is not Free dance but the Compulsory Dance, everything falls into place (at the EC2004 - Austrian Waltz, WC2004 - Midnight Bles).
From the list of uncertainty can strike: 21 - File:Golovina Voiko EC04.jpg (obvious - no), 28 - File:Jessica Huot & Juha Valkama 2003 NHK Trophy.jpg and [1] (probably not). --Luu (talk) 03:49, 6 July 2010 (UTC)Reply
I am quite sure that we see the compulsory dance, not the free dance. More precisely, the picture shows the swing roll at the end of the Midnight Blues dance pattern, were they skate in reverse foxtrot hold, the lady on an RBO edge and the man on an LBI edge.
Finally, I think I solved it, look here. There they have exactly the same costumes and hair style. --JRff (talk) 06:39, 6 July 2010 (UTC)Reply
Yes, they are:) 100%. --Luu (talk) 06:50, 6 July 2010 (UTC)Reply
Why do you think that stock few photos of dancers on the ice? See Category:Ice dancers - 141kat. Most of these photos of good quality. Consider also that many ice dancers surrounding this category. When I noticed the mistake I correct it. --Luu (talk) 06:10, 6 July 2010 (UTC)Reply
Only now, I passed by category Category:Figure skaters from the Soviet Union and Category:Figure skaters from Russia and found another 29 people ice dancers with beautiful photos. :) --Luu (talk) 06:36, 6 July 2010 (UTC)Reply
I did not say that there are not many beautiful ice dancing photos. But if we look for "classic" dance holds in motion it becomes more difficult: The high quality photos are mainly from positions that are relatively easy to photograph: Either still positions just before the introduction of a dance or the still positions at the end. There are also many spectacular lifts, where the skaters remain in a fixed position for a moment, so that you can shoot a photo. And of course, there are a lot of medal ceremonies.
The problem with dance holds in compulsory dances is that the skaters move very fast, so that you need professional equipment in order to make a high quality picture with the low light in an ice rink. And many of the professionals will not load up their pictures for free. But as I saw from your links, Commons is going to improve. --JRff (talk) 06:58, 6 July 2010 (UTC)Reply
I created the Category:Aurimas Radisauskas and Category:Clover Zatzman and placed it in Category:Ice dancers. Now everything is beautiful:). Thank you for your inquiry. --Luu (talk) 07:12, 6 July 2010 (UTC)Reply
Thank you too. I extended the image description a bit and informed the photographer on his discussion page in the German Wikipedia. --JRff (talk) 07:53, 6 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

File:2010 JWC Kevin Alves.jpg edit

Hello. If you have a tremendous problem with the category, feel free to delete it and just refer to this talk page discussion in the edit summary. A category choice should generally not infuriate another user, and I would prefer the category be deleted than have it cause unnecessary friction. While I believe that the category should not be deleted merely because the event was not in Canada or because the subject was not competing for Canada, I don't care enough about it, and would gladly defer to you if you felt more strongly about it. Regards, --Skeezix1000 (talk) 19:24, 10 August 2011 (UTC)Reply

Hello. I really think it is not correct to place a photo of athletes in the category only on the basis of their citizenship. In figure skating situation with Alves is not an isolated case. You'll have to hang up the category xxx sport in Canada to all the photos for example, Category:Tanith Belbin. And the photos Category:Kaitlyn Weaver, the contrary, XXX sports in the United States, and the photo of Category:Maxim Zavozin - XXX sport in Russia, XXX sport in the United States and XXX sport in Hungary :) and all this, by year:). And this Japanese skater also lives and was born in Canada, while his parents are from Vietnam and Cambodia, and the likelihood of his citizenship in these countries is not zero, and so imagine what a mess you get? I think this confusion does not benefit the sport of Canada or other countries.) Categories will be cluttered, people will be confused. Does anyone take a picture "Paraguayan" skater to illustrate China's sporting life:). So if we agree with you, I would like to remove Kevin Alves of sporting life of Canada in 2010:). Mark that it Canadian-Brazilian and that he has to do with the Canadian sport is at the root category. Regards, --Luu (talk) 04:04, 11 August 2011 (UTC)Reply
I don't necessarily agree with all of that, but if a category strikes another editor as odd, then it's usually a good idea to delete it. I'm happy if you would like to delete it. Best regards, --Skeezix1000 (talk) 10:57, 11 August 2011 (UTC)Reply
Well, Then I delete this category. If you want a return gesture, type your photos of skaters really relevant to the sport of Canada 2010. I'm a skater good reference point:). Regards,--Luu (talk) 11:47, 11 August 2011 (UTC)Reply

File:Cup of Russia 2010 - Yuzuru Hanyu (2).jpg edit

Hello. Luu, I see that you changed the category back in January 2013 from one male figure skater (Yuzuru Hanyu) to another male figure skater (Tatsuki Machida) and both representing Japan. Since I don't know these figure skaters well, I wonder why you didn't also change the file name so that it follows the commons:category it is categorized in. What is correct filename (Yuzuru Hanyu) or category (Tatsuki Machida) ? Please can you correct it so that it doesn't confuse me and others that are not that into figure skating so it shows who it is. Best regards Migrant (talk) 22:22, 2 May 2015 (UTC)Reply

Done. Thank you. I forgot about it. --Luu (talk) 03:42, 3 May 2015 (UTC)Reply
