Image help

Hi Majorly, As for the picture 1989-6-4-student.jpg, it is scanned from the book from Library of University of Illinois: Historical Record (Taipei, Research Center for China Mainland Issues, 1989). This book was compiled by Research Center for China Mainland Issues, but they printed the pictures without indicating the photographers. I am sure that the pictures in that book were not taken by that research center, but mostly taken by the students in the 1989 movement of Beijing. However, due to the massacre, the photographer may be put into prison or killed. Nobody dare to claim it is his picture due to the political pressure.

Most importantly, the photographer, who may be killed that time or put into prison, took that picture for the purpose of letting more people know the truth of that massacre and to reveal the lies of the government that nobody was killed in 1989. If you delete the picture just because you cannot confirm whose picture it is, then you miss the point of taking that picture. Civilized people know how to protect the copyright, but the communist government does not know how to protect the lives of people, including the lives of photographers.

In the spirit of this, I hope you do not delete that picture because I am sure nobody will claim who took those picture and nobody would like this precious picture to stay unknown and the lies made by the government, which claims there was no massacre, still prevades.

Please help me how to keep this picture.

Pourquoi avoir supprimé l'image Logo_aix_les_bains.gif. Il s'agit du logo administratif de la commune d'Aix-les-Bains. C'est parfaitement légale de le mettre sur wikipédia. Mais si tu veux supprimer tous les logos des communes françaises dans ce cas voici une liste, mais franchement c'est n'importe quoi :

Deleted image

Hi, Majorly:

1. You have deleted the image "Hugonmazzilli.jpg", in "Commons", that was used in "http://pt.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hugo_Nigro_Mazzilli".

2. I understand your reasons, because the image was not accompanied with source information etc.

3. **But the image is taken by myself in 2005 approximately, and so, I have the user right of it.

4. I don't know how to insert these informations (n. 3, above), when I upload the image.

5. I'm sorry my bad english... :(

6. I have done a correction, I hope it works. If not, please, can you told me how to do this?

I know that copyright is a serious issue and that deleting images is not a pleasant duty.

On 30th December someone wrote that the map on the site didn't have the good licence. On 2d of January I wrote a mail to permissions with the reference of the website where they say that the maps on the site are free for use by anybody, without copyright.

I didn't receive any answer, nor negative, nor positive from permissions. Whatever there decision be, it is useful to know the reasons. It would be interesting to me, in order to learn what images can be imported and what images must not be imported, as for my understanding, the authorisation given by the copyrightholders on their website was quite clear. 99% of the images i donate to Commons are my own work, so in that case there is no doubt, but good maps free of copyright are hard to find and I really try to be careful when I find an image somewhere else. --Flamenc 18:32, 9 January 2008 (UTC)

Are you sure you know enough French to evaluate whether the image is conform the rules? Did you go to that web site to check? I will accept any fair decision, but I prefer some communication before as I have the feeling you did not read/understand the information that was available. With other controversial images I had discussions with the supervising volunteers and that makes it a lot more pleasant. Flamenc 23:09, 9 January 2008 (UTC)

Please undelete this image. I am the copyright owner of the original unwatermarked image that this was a derivative of. I gave a proper copyleft license to that derivative. The flickr image is a different derivative of the original that I stamped with a watermark.

Hello Majorly..... In November 2007 I had uploaded a picture of a world warII US leaflet Image: "FeldPost 6 1945.png" on the Wikimedia Commons. I was not sure whats the correct copyright status of this leaflet is. So I try it with the "U.S. government work" tag. I am the owner of this leaflet and had scanned is by my self. It is in my opinion an important historical document and it is incomprehensible to me why no experienced users can find a usable correction of the copyright tag.
