Please delete all my pictures. edit

To avoid being blocked, please delete all my pictures. I am no longer using WM commons anymore. Nor do I use it. Tornadosurvivor2011 (talk) 22:44, 6 December 2018 (UTC)Reply

You will only get blocked if you continue uploading files with problems. Some of your uploads probably need to be deleted, but others might be able to be kept with only their respective licensing being revised to something more appropriate.
The main issue you seem to be having is your misunderstanding of what is meant by "own work" on Commons. "Own work" means you are the creator from start to finish of everything associated with the work in question; it doesn't mean you downloaded someone else's work on to one of your devices and then uploaded that to Commons. For example, when you purchase some band's CD, you are the owner of the physical CD, etc. itself; however, there's no transfer of copyright taking place. So, if you then convert the music on that CD to some other format (say a mpg3) using your computer, you don't cancel out the original copyright the band has over it's music and you cannot upload whatever you created to Commons with the explicit permission of the band. It's possible that you might use the band's music to make something new and your new creation might be protected by your copyright as a derivative work; however, the copyright over the band's music itself (the part you used) is still held by the band. You can claim copyright ownership over the derivative, but not the original work; so, you still need permission from the band even to upload your derivative work to Commons.
I've probably just made things more confusing; so, look at the image at the top of Commons:Licensing. If there's anything you don't understand about it, feel free to ask. -- Marchjuly (talk) 23:03, 6 December 2018 (UTC)Reply
