I am now proud owner of a TUSC account!

Edit

Hello, I saw that you uploaded the up-to-date Ayn Rand Institute logo after my upload was deleted. I believe mine was deleted for copyright reasons. I am now trying to upload the logo for the Center for Industrial Progress - found here - but I believe it will probably be taken down immediately for copyright reasons. Could you please help me by either uploading the image yourself in a way that you know will stay, and/or explain to me how I can upload logos of organizations without facing copyright violation issues? Thanks. Michipedian (talk) 21:27, 6 July 2017 (UTC)

The ARI logo should be OK for Commons because it is simple text with a yellow square, and therefore probably beneath the threshold of originality for copyrighting logos in the US. The art on the CIP logo is more complex, so it may be protected. Absent a specific court ruling on the logo or something very similar, it's going to be a judgment call. --RL0919 (talk) 21:38, 6 July 2017 (UTC)
If it is copyrighted, then could I be granted permission from CIP themselves via email to upload the image to Wikimedia commons? Michipedian (talk) 22:06, 6 July 2017 (UTC)
Yes, the copyright owner can grant permission. They should send the email directly to permissions-commons@wikimedia.org. See Commons:OTRS and Commons:Email templates for more information. --RL0919 (talk) 22:11, 6 July 2017 (UTC)
Excellent, thanks! Michipedian (talk) 22:24, 6 July 2017 (UTC)
