Look2See1

Since you recently participated in a discussion related to User:Look2See1's actions, it would help if you participated in discussion at the "Look2See1" section of COM:AN/U. Nyttend (talk) 23:01, 2 July 2015 (UTC)

Don't bother; the first response was by an admin who's blocked Look2See1 for one month, so further input won't affect anything. Nyttend (talk) 00:54, 3 July 2015 (UTC)
Thank you for assembling the well-written summary. Since A.Savin block is not indef, we may be discussing this matter again. Walter Siegmund (talk) 01:26, 3 July 2015 (UTC)
You're welcome. Hopefully we won't have too much difficulty in the future; see the latest comment on my talk page. Nyttend (talk) 22:26, 3 July 2015 (UTC)

New Mount Rainier Photo

my photo

your photo

Hi Walter,

Recently I took a new photo: File:Mount Rainier from the Silver Queen Peak.jpg which is similar to one of your photos, File:Mount Rainier 5917s.JPG. Could you please help me with identifying geographical features in my photo? I am not familiar with the area but I noticed your photo has a rich and detailed description.

Also, I think that, when viewed at full resolution, my photo is technically superior in the following areas:

  • Better sharpness
  • No chromatic aberration
  • Less coma
  • Wider field of view
  • Less snow on the peak, allowing for better view of geographical features
  • No possibility for stitching distortion since this is a single photo taken with a mostly distortion-free lens (which has been subsequently electronically corrected in-camera)

However, your photo is superior in the following areas:

  • Less atmospheric haze since it is taken closer
  • Slightly more pixels for the mountain
  • Possibly more detail in trees

I was thinking of replacing your photo with mine (or possibly a crop thereof) as the lead image of w:Mount Rainier as well as some other articles it appears on, but I thought I should ask you first. What do you think? Thanks! dllu (t,c) 01:43, 4 July 2015 (UTC)

dllu; Thank you for your message. Your image is very fine. My suggestion is to invite the editors to discuss image selection on the article talk page for w:Mount Rainier. I'd like to bring up the use of File:Mount Rainier panorama 2.jpg which is obstructed and depicts an unappealing parking lot and road cut as well as the mountain. It is better suited to illustrate the national park article, I think. My image, File:Nisqually_Glacier_0902.JPG, depicts well the features on the southeast side of the mountain and is arguably a better choice for the Mount Rainier article. It may be worth a talk page discussion so that decisions are documented and can be cited when someone wants to substitute their favorite snapshot. File:Mount Rainier over Tacoma.jpg is another image that is of mediocre quality.
I'd like to invite you to participate in Commons:Geocoding. Locations with informal names such as Silver Queen Peak may be difficult for others to identify.[1][2] Wikiversity has an article that identifies many of the geographical features of the mountain.[3] Best wishes, Walter Siegmund (talk) 17:53, 5 July 2015 (UTC)
Thanks for the suggestions! I've added coordinates to the image based on the links you sent as well as looking at satellite imagery from Google maps. I'll discuss this on w:Talk:Mount Rainier. dllu (t,c) 21:06, 9 July 2015 (UTC)
