Doug youvan

Why is the analogous page to this one under Commons being deleted for my username Doug youvan 07:27, 5 May 2008 (UTC)?

Why is the analogous page to this one under Commons again being deleted for my username Doug youvan 14:06, 6 May 2008 (UTC) ? How can the initial starting of a page be "out of scope", and why would there be more than one contributor if the page is only one day old? I have about 20,000 images ranging from 1960's Kansas to present day Laos. What if would like to discuss some of that work before uploading? I'm also an inventor with ~500 patent references at www.uspto.gov. That should make me a good finder of public domain drawings. I have also been a scientist for ~40 years, an on-line journal editor, and know about the PubMed copyright problems that conflict with the current US Congressional mandate on public disclosure. Are those types of discussions appropriate? I am banned on the en.wikimedi.org space for reasons unknown to me. Is that why my page is readily being deleted on commons.wikimedia.org? Mike Godwin has stopped talking with me.Doug youvan 14:06, 6 May 2008 (UTC)
I believe that another editor should bring the problems I am having on the en. and commons. subdomains to village pump and thoughtful administrators, as I am still banned, but I will not lose hope of finding some justice here. Doug youvan 17:28, 7 May 2008 (UTC)
Doug youvan has been advised that Wikimedia Commons has a specific scope. Contributions that are consistent with that scope and that are in accordance with the guidelines and policies of Commons are welcome. Commons is largely distinct from the various Wikipedias including the English version. Walter Siegmund (talk) 18:18, 7 May 2008 (UTC)

Norsk bokmål

isn't listed on your user page... [1] ;o) Finn Rindahl 12:21, 5 May 2008 (UTC)

Thank you for the translation! I added Norsk bokmål to the gallery. Just now, I spent a very pleasant half hour touring your part of the world with Google Earth thanks to you, Dana Morris, and Mahlum. Best wishes, Walter Siegmund (talk) 15:30, 5 May 2008 (UTC)
Reminds me that I should be adding more coordinates one of these days... Regards, Finn Rindahl 22:05, 5 May 2008 (UTC)
May I suggest that you promote yourself; {{User PH-1}} is too modest! Thank you for these and the geocoding. Walter Siegmund (talk) 23:01, 5 May 2008 (UTC)

Pillar of the Golden Gate Bridge

Hi Walter, thank you for your continued active participation in the test review phase of COM:VIC. Concerning the subject, you mentioned another image. I have now tried to make the alternative eligible for VI and moved both candidates to Most Valued Review in case you want to review the competing candidate. Cheers, -- Slaunger 20:47, 6 May 2008 (UTC)

You are welcome. Thank you for letting me know. Walter Siegmund (talk) 22:42, 6 May 2008 (UTC)

Help needed with the Valued images project

As you may have seen, this project is going live for nominations on 1 June, 2008 at 0:00 UTC. Before then, there are a few things to be finished off, and any help you can give will be welcome. The latest discussion is at Commons talk:Valued images candidates#Open action items for Valued images.

When the project launches publicly on 1 June, it will need reviewers who are able to jump in quickly and provide prompt feedback. During those critical first few weeks it will be important to have a decent number of reviewers who are prepared to put in the effort to make sure the first nominations are well-reviewed, as that will set the standard for the future.

Would you help, please, with the final tasks now, and also pledge your help with some reviewing on 1 June and thereafter? --MichaelMaggs 17:08, 19 May 2008 (UTC)

Valued images test review phase has ended

Dear Wsiegmund,

Thank you for participating in the development of the Valued images project by test nominating one or more candidates. We have used the input from the test reviews to fine-tune the guidelines, process and templates used, hereby hopefully improving the setup.

We have now decided that on June 1, 2008 at 0:00 (UTC), the valued image project will be opened for official nominations. To get ready for the grand opening, we will close down the last remaining open test candidates in a few hours, such that the candidates list pages are emptied and ready.

Since there has been a certain amount of instruction creep over the course of the test review pahse, we have decided that all promoted and declined candidates from the test review phase will be reset to the so-called "undecided" state prior to the opening. This means that test valued image candidate review pages all end up in Category:Undecided valued images candidates and the test sets end up in Category:Undecided valued image set candidates.

The votes from the original test review will be archived in a previous reviews subpage and reset upon renomination.

Although all nominations will be reset, you, as a test nominator, will still have the advantage that each candidate can be re-nominated beginning June 1 0:00 UTC. The votes from the original test review will be archived in a previous reviews subpage and reset upon renomination. Click on the links to the aforementioned categories for instruction on how to renominate.

In addition, the project has decided to re-nominate all candidates, which were test promoted, unless you tell us not to do so on my talk page. Also, do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions or problems relating to valued images.

I hope, you will also take part in the project once it goes on the air, either as nominator, maintainer and/or reviewer.

Happy editing, -- Slaunger 22:20, 25 May 2008 (UTC)

I regret I never got the point of test reviewing your canooing image. It seemed like a good candidate, but I was busy working on the process and the machinery behind this. I hope, that when we go on the air we will have more reviewers with more diverse competences than in the test review phase, and that our review speed will be faster... -- Slaunger 22:20, 25 May 2008 (UTC)

Thank you for your comment. Subsequently, Mbz1 found several images, one of which we agree is a better illustration of the topic. Perhaps, when thing are running again, I can nominate it. Best wishes, Walter Siegmund (talk) 22:52, 25 May 2008 (UTC)
