"indafoto" is an image host where people can upload images, its not the copyright holder. The permission must come from the author, not from the image host, unlikely a website like indafoto - or flickr, or picasa or other such pages - can give written permission over the content of their users that they host but not own. The attribution is nonsense. --Martin H. (talk) 12:40, 24 January 2011 (UTC)

Hi, the permission came from the Hungarian Tennis Association, they host their photos at Indafoto. I do know that Indafoto is like Flickr. :) --Teemeah (talk) 14:06, 24 January 2011 (UTC)
(Note: comment moved back from my talkpage) But then attribution should go to them, not to indafoto. I doubt that they agreed that anyone can reuse their property for commercial purposes as long as "indafoto" is attributed. Please clarify this with the OTRS ticket, I just wanted to give you a note. --Martin H. (talk) 14:11, 24 January 2011 (UTC)

Hello Teemeah ! For the photo that you have done here, can you do this for others in the group ? I try to do it but it does not work, I am told there is an error, maybe a bug with my computer... Thank you in advance, cordially. Cl;nintendods (talk) 15:15, 9 November 2011 (UTC)

By against it was already done to Heo Young Saeng, cordially. Cl;nintendods (talk) 15:16, 9 November 2011 (UTC)
Hi, I can do it but you have to tell me who is who on the picture. I am not familiar with this group, I only know Kim Hyun Joong because I watched Boys over Flowers a zillion times. :) If you tell me the names and the order on the picture, I'll do the cropping. Regards, Teemeah (talk) 16:49, 9 November 2011 (UTC)
Hey :) you will find the answer here. Is what you can let me know if you done the pictures ? Thanks in advance, Cl;nintendods (talk) 17:18, 9 November 2011 (UTC)
done. Teemeah (talk) 21:43, 9 November 2011 (UTC)
Hello, thanks. I forgot to thank you, sorry ! You say that you watched Boys over Flowers a zillion times, there have been several versions ? French or english ? Or original version with subtitles french or english ? Thanks in advance for your answer, Cl;nintendods (talk) 19:55, 15 November 2011 (UTC)
well I don't know which version it was, it was fansubbed into Hungarian. :) Teemeah (talk) 20:02, 15 November 2011 (UTC)
Hello ! Time to talk about Boys Over Flowers, I found a site with a lot of Korean dramas with subtitles in English and French. So, I could see Boys Over Flowers with French subtitles ! ;) I see also Heartstrings, and I'm watching City Hunter. Cordially, Cl;nintendods (talk) 19:23, 9 February 2012 (UTC)

hu:Fájlvita:HEWabr.jpg edit

Hi and thanks for the shoutout. The original image would be highly appreciated, though seeing the same image with about the same attributes (the blue background) on resellers' websites is often suspect and raises a few red flags with those who don't know the context of who User Tambo is on hu.wiki. Tambo's full name in image upload information (as uploader or image creator, if he is willing to volunteer it) would be appreciated (I understand it's very much voluntary), just as relevant information on authorship and who shot the photo (presumably User Tambo himself). If a very similar and even larger image were uploaded, then perhaps if it were without the blue background... I'd love a good English-language description of each device, and maybe context that User Tambo designed this and that measuring device.

Given that User Tambo is also the designer of several such devices (way cool), then I assume he also owns copyright on design outlines, too. I am assuming that he'd be releasing rights on images only, and not the design itself, which is very much acceptable to be his domain. Does Ganz wield any powers in exercising copyright over Tambo's designs, or are Tambo's designs his very own (I assume), or have the designs been deemed as too generic?

btw, if you probably know about the Commons relicensing campaign (the HEWabr.jpg image has a GFDL tag on it), then Commons does not seem to accept GFDL-based content anymore — as far as text went, but could also extend to images — yet it does accept similarly-licensed CC-BY-SA content. I took a quick look at both licenses and found that GFDL's conditions appeared to be more intricate and complex, hence the overall relicensing campaign. Interestingly, CC-BY-SA content can in turn be relicensed to be GFDL. -Mardus (talk) 23:17, 29 November 2011 (UTC)

Hi. I was actually very tired when I wrote all this late yesterday night, so I'm just clarifying some things. User Tambo can choose to publish or not to publish his own name, depending on how he cares about his privacy. While using a full name typically adds legitimacy to the image, then the downside may be some loss of privacy, so this must be considered with care.
As I understand it, designs for devices are owned by their creators (as per a design patent, for example, or default copyright in some cases, depending on legislation) and any license accompanying an image would then apply to only the image/photo, but not the design (as it is with photos of popular consumer gadgets). Schematic-like outline images of devices should probably have in their permission text that only the images carry licenses, I think, just to avoid ambiguitites or misunderstanding. Maybe they do already by default, but a schematic outline with such a license might introduce misunderstanding, unless User Tambo has actually released the design under a public domain (or some other permissive) license.
I also suggest drawings (as with the linked image) be uploaded in PNG format, as the JPEG filetype introduces compression artifacts, which is why the latter format is good only for actual photos. -Mardus (talk) 12:00, 30 November 2011 (UTC)

Picture of the Year voting round 1 open edit

Dear Wikimedians,

Wikimedia Commons is happy to announce that the 2012 Picture of the Year competition is now open. We're interested in your opinion as to which images qualify to be the Picture of the Year for 2012. Voting is open to established Wikimedia users who meet the following criteria:

  1. Users must have an account, at any Wikimedia project, which was registered before Tue, 01 Jan 2013 00:00:00 +0000 [UTC].
  2. This user account must have more than 75 edits on any single Wikimedia project before Tue, 01 Jan 2013 00:00:00 +0000 [UTC]. Please check your account eligibility at the POTY 2012 Contest Eligibility tool.
  3. Users must vote with an account meeting the above requirements either on Commons or another SUL-related Wikimedia project (for other Wikimedia projects, the account must be attached to the user's Commons account through SUL).

Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year are all entered in this competition. From professional animal and plant shots to breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historically relevant images, images portraying the world's best architecture, maps, emblems, diagrams created with the most modern technology, and impressive human portraits, Commons features pictures of all flavors.

For your convenience, we have sorted the images into topic categories. Two rounds of voting will be held: In the first round, you can vote for as many images as you like. The first round category winners and the top ten overall will then make it to the final. In the final round, when a limited number of images are left, you must decide on the one image that you want to become the Picture of the Year.

To see the candidate images just go to the POTY 2012 page on Wikimedia Commons

Wikimedia Commons celebrates our featured images of 2012 with this contest. Your votes decide the Picture of the Year, so remember to vote in the first round by January 30, 2013.

Thanks,
the Wikimedia Commons Picture of the Year committee

I am sent your messege that ko:사용자:Reiro/저작권 is just show I'm allowed to 'use' it. But I clearly revealed that when I send E mail to pics owner, I also state I'll use it as CC licence, and he/she allowed.(Although it isn't exactly exposed.) I can't reveal original mail because it is deleted, but I'm really allowd it. Please think twice.--61.75.92.32 18:54, 26 January 2013 (UTC)

Hi Teemeah, you're now a filemover. When moving files please respect the following advice:

  • Use the CommonsDelinker link in the {{Rename}} template to order a bot to replace all ocurrences of the old title with the new one. Or, if there was no rename-request, please use the Move & Replace-tab.
  • Please leave a redirect behind unless you have a valid reason not to do so. Other projects, including those using InstantCommons, might be using the file even though they don't show up in the global usage. Deleting the redirects would break their file references. Please see this section of the file rename guideline for more information.
  • Please know and follow the file rename guidelines.
I think you are experienced enough to move files on your own. --Didym (talk) 13:32, 21 October 2013 (UTC)

Szia! Elnézést, csak most kerültem gépközelbe! --Sphenodon (talk) 18:15, 4 November 2013 (UTC)

Dear Wikimedians,

Wikimedia Commons is happy to announce that the second round of the 2013 Picture of the Year competition is now open. This year will be the eighth edition of the annual Wikimedia Commons photo competition, which recognizes exceptional contributions by users on Wikimedia Commons. Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year were entered in this competition. These images include professional animal and plant shots, breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historical images, photographs portraying the world's best architecture, impressive human portraits, and so much more.

RE: File:Miss A in December 2009 (b).jpg edit

I checked the rules for categorization and you're right. Thanks for the notice. Just another question: in a picture with the four miss A there won't be the single members' categories, but what if there are only two of them? Do we keep the member's categories too, or do we remove them? --Chiyako92 (talk) 15:19, 27 June 2014 (UTC) I reread the rules and found out I misunderstood them. Actually, they say that, for example, a photo portraying Suzy shouldn't be tag under Miss A, not the contrary. I think it's proper tagging all the photos portraying a person under her own category, those where this person is alone and where is with someone else. --Chiyako92 (talk) 15:49, 27 June 2014 (UTC)

Hi Teemeah - do you know what's happened to en:List of K-Pop concerts held outside Asia and all the concert information that has disappeared? I'm afraid to add anything back - I attended Topp Dogg concert in Miami Beach tonight - and that one is gone, along with the rest. Also, the concert that you added the photo for, F.T. Island in Paris, has been deleted. I understand the future concerts being taken down - that's WP policy - but why the ones that already occurred - who is deciding that they are notable or not? The only one they left up was en:K-Pop Night Out at SXSW and I created that page.  ???? --Bonnielou2013 (talk) 06:05, 8 February 2015 (UTC)

Thanks Teemeah, yes I could see the history and it is part of the Korea project clean-up. Most concerts that did not have their own page were taken off - but some others were left, just based on that individual editor's determination of whether they were notable or not.

I don't feel like debating it with people who have already expressed their frustration and disdain of K-Pop articles on WP and those of us who edit them. I've read some of the project's discussions and the attitudes of some of the people involved are disheartening. We may soon have very limited English language sources to reference, if they get their way. Next thing they'll challenge all Korean language references! Then we can stop writing about anything Korean related, as many of my sources are Korean. (I saw you weighing in on these debates and agreed with your comments.) I even look at blogs to get "real" references sometimes, and for translations for Korean articles. And I pay attention to those biased affiliations (ie. Korean TV stations, terrestrial and cable, owned by newspapers).

For me, I found the List of concerts outside Asia very interesting, as I have often wondered how many were occurring. I think the only ones looking at that page were persons interested in K-Pop, like me. I didn't agree with future concerts being listed, but past concerts by groups like F.T.Island, Lunafly, Nu'est, etc., that didn't have their own pages - those were still fine with me being on the list. They were historical, and several were part of the tours that fans had made happen through voting. Tell me the first K-Pop concert in Guatemala (Lunafly) was not significant! Or the 2nd ever K-Pop concert here in Miami (Topp Dogg)!

Maybe I can start a page of Non-notable K-Pop concerts outside the U.S. to replace all the lost information! hahaha! Thanks for listening and letting me let off some steam!--Bonnielou2013 (talk) 18:14, 9 February 2015 (UTC)

Round 2 of Picture of the Year 2015 is open! edit

You are receiving this message because you voted in R1 of the 2015 Picture of the Year contest.

Dear Xia,

Wikimedia Commons is happy to announce that the second round of the 2015 Picture of the Year competition is now open. This year will be the tenth edition of the annual Wikimedia Commons photo competition, which recognizes exceptional contributions by users on Wikimedia Commons. Wikimedia users are invited to vote for their favorite images featured on Commons during the last year (2015) to produce a single Picture of the Year.

There are two total rounds of voting. In the first round, you voted for as many images as you liked. In Round 1, there were 1322 candidate images. There are 56 finalists in Round 2, comprised of the top 30 overall as well as the top #1 and #2 from each sub-category. In the final round, you may vote for just one or maximal three image to become the Picture of the Year.

Round 2 will end on 28 May 2016, 23:59:59 UTC.

Thanks,
-- Wikimedia Commons Picture of the Year committee 09:44, 22 May 2016 (UTC)

Szia!

--Regasterios (talk) 16:38, 9 June 2016 (UTC)

Thanks for uploading File:Dwaeji bulgogi with ssamjang and kimchi.jpg. I notice that the file page either doesn't contain enough information about the license or it contains contradictory information about the license, so the copyright status is unclear.

If you created this file yourself, then you must provide a valid copyright tag. For example, you can tag it with {{self|GFDL|cc-by-sa-all}} to release it under the multi-license GFDL plus Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike All-version license or you can tag it with {{PD-self}} to release it into the public domain. (See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of license tags that you can use.)

If you did not create the file yourself or if it is a derivative of another work that is possibly subject to copyright protection, then you must specify where you found it (e.g. usually a link to the web page where you got it), you must provide proof that it has a license that is acceptable for Commons (e.g. usually a link to the terms of use for content from that page), and you must add an appropriate license tag. If you did not create the file yourself and the specific source and license information is not available on the web, you must obtain permission through the VRT system and follow the procedure described there.

Note that any unsourced or improperly licensed files will be deleted one week after they have been marked as lacking proper information, as described in criteria for deletion. If you have uploaded other files, please confirm that you have provided the proper information for those files, too. If you have any questions about licenses please ask at Commons:Village pump/Copyright or see our help pages. Thank you.

You should also name the author, provide verifiable information to show that the content is in the public domain or has been published under a free license by its author, and add an appropriate template identifying the public domain or licensing status, if you have not already done so. Warning: Wikimedia Commons takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

Please add the required information for this and other files you have uploaded before adding more files. If you need assistance, please ask at the help desk. Thank you!

This media may be deleted.
Thanks for uploading File:Yoon Doo-joon in February 2017.jpg. This media is missing permission information. A source is given, but there is no proof that the author or copyright holder agreed to license the file under the given license. Please provide a link to an appropriate webpage with license information, or ask the author or copyright holder to send an email with copy of a written permission to VRT (permissions-commons@wikimedia.org). You may still be required to go through this procedure even if you are the author yourself; please see Commons:But it's my own work! for more details. After you emailed permission, you may replace the {{No permission since}} tag with {{subst:PP}} on file description page. Alternatively, you may click on "Challenge speedy deletion" below the tag if you wish to provide an argument why evidence of permission is not necessary in this case.

Please see this page for more information on how to confirm permission, or if you would like to understand why we ask for permission when uploading work that is not your own, or work which has been previously published (regardless of whether it is your own).

Warning: unless the permission information is given, the file may be deleted after seven days. Thank you.

Important message for file movers edit

A community discussion has been closed where the consensus was to grant all file movers the suppressredirect user right. This will allow file movers to not leave behind a redirect when moving files and instead automatically have the original file name deleted. Policy never requires you to suppress the redirect, suppression of redirects is entirely optional.

Possible acceptable uses of this ability:

  • To move recently uploaded files with an obvious error in the file name where that error would not be a reasonable redirect. For example: moving "Sheep in a tree.jpg" to "Squirrel in a tree.jpg" when the image does in fact depict a squirrel.
  • To perform file name swaps.
  • When the original file name contains vandalism. (File renaming criterion #5)

Please note, this ability should be used only in certain circumstances and only if you are absolutely sure that it is not going to break the display of the file on any project. Redirects should never be suppressed if the file is in use on any project. When in doubt, leave a redirect. If you forget to suppress the redirect in case of file name vandalism or you are not fully certain if the original file name is actually vandalism, leave a redirect and tag the redirect for speedy deletion per G2.

The malicious or reckless breaking of file links via the suppressredirect user right is considered an abuse of the file mover right and is grounds for immediate revocation of that right. This message serves as both a notice that you have this right and as an official warning. Questions regarding this right should be directed to administrators. --Majora (talk) 21:36, 7 November 2019 (UTC)
