You don't need technical skills in order to contribute here. Be bold when contributing and assume good faith when interacting with others. This is a wiki.

Getting help

More information is available at the community portal. You may ask questions at the help desk, village pump or on IRC channel #wikimedia-commons (webchat). You can also contact an administrator on their talk page. If you have a specific copyright question, ask at the copyright village pump.

Goodies, tips, and tricks

Put Babel boxes on your user page so others know what languages you can speak and indicate your graphic abilities.
You can find the files you have uploaded in your Uploads.
Please sign your name on Talk pages by typing ~~~~.
To link to an image page without embedding the image, type: [[:File:Foo.jpg]], which produces: File:Foo.jpg.
You may enable gadgets (custom features) for your account.
There are several tools to upload files.
Have you edited Wikipedia before? This guide might be useful.

Made a mistake?

Do you want to have a file renamed or moved? Use the move link and wait for an authorized user to rename it.
Do you want to have your recently uploaded picture removed? Tag it as {{speedy|reason here}}. For more information read the deletion guidelines.

Thank you for providing images to Wikimedia Commons. Please keep in mind that images and other files on Commons must be under a free license and should be useful to the Wikimedia projects. To allow others to use your files, some additional information must be given on the description page. Most importantly:

Describe what it is about in a short sentence. (What does the image show?)
State the author and the date of creation. If you made it yourself, say so explicitly. If it is from another Wikimedia user, link to the person's local user page. Best to use CommonsHelper.
If you did not create the file yourself, state the source you got it from.
Add a copyright tag - images without an appropriate license tag will be deleted.
Add the image to one or more gallery pages and/or appropriate categories, so it can be found by others. To find out where an image belongs, you can use CommonsSense.

If you copied the file from another wiki, please copy all information given there and say who uploaded it to that wiki. Use CommonsHelper.

It is recommended to use Template:Information to put that information on the description page. Have a look at Template talk:Information for details of the use of this template.

You can edit the description page and change the text. Uploading a new version of the file does not change the description of the file.

Tip: Add categories to your files

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

[[Category:Category name]]

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

[[Category:Astronomical diagrams]]

[[Category:Comets]]

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

カテゴリの設定と写真の選別について

山梨県の色々な画像の投稿御苦労さまです。これらの画像ですが、付与するカテゴリ（"Category:xxx"　という部分）のほとんどに問題があるようでして、第三者から見てそれらの画像を発見することが困難となっています。原則として、風景の画像であれば必要なのは、a)該当する市町村（例えば、甲府市なら、"Category:Kofu, Yamanashi"）、または京都市のようにさらに細かい区分がある場合はそちら（例：右京区なら "Category:Ukyo-ku, Kyoto"）、b)映っている建物や風景が何なのか〔神社なら "Category:Shrines in Yamanashi prefecture" 〕の2つとなります。例えば、貴殿が投稿されましたFile:Yumura-hot spring street Kofu-city.JPGの場合、必要なのはCategory:Kofu, Yamanashi、Category:Hot springs of Japanで、それ以外は基本的に不要です。またカテゴリは機械的に付与すれば良いものでもなく、例えば甲府市のカテゴリに雑多な風景写真が何十枚もあれば検索性が低下しますので、（もし枚数の増加が予測されるならば）必要に応じて、甲府市の神社、甲府市の商店、甲府市の家屋、（同じ神社の画像が何枚もあるなら）○○神社、などのサブカテゴリの作成が必要となります。

また写真の質も重要な条件となります。御自身の発表作としてはFlickrあたりに一括アップして頂き、権利を CC-BY または　CC-BY-SA に設定された上で、その使用を望む人があればWikimedia Commonsへの移動を許可されるといった方法もあります。情報が整理されていないもの、写真としての出来がもう一つのものなどは第三者が適切に利用できず、却って検索性を損なうことがあります。恐れ入りますが以上の点、御協力の程よろしくお願いいたします。--トトト (talk) 07:40, 4 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

Dear Wikimedians,

Wikimedia Commons is happy to announce that the second round of the 2013 Picture of the Year competition is now open. This year will be the eighth edition of the annual Wikimedia Commons photo competition, which recognizes exceptional contributions by users on Wikimedia Commons. Wikimedia users are invited to vote for their favorite images featured on Commons during the last year (2013) to produce a single Picture of the Year.

Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year were entered in this competition. These images include professional animal and plant shots, breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historical images, photographs portraying the world's best architecture, impressive human portraits, and so much more.

There are two total rounds of voting. In the first round, you voted for as many images as you liked. The top 30 overall and the most popular image in each category have continued to the final. In the final round, you may vote for just one image to become the Picture of the Year.

Dear さかおり,

The 2013 Picture of the Year competition has ended and we are pleased to announce the results: We shattered participation records this year — more people voted in Picture of the Year 2013 than ever before. In both rounds, 4070 different people voted for their favorite images. Additionally, there were more image candidates (featured pictures) in the contest than ever before (962 images total).

In the first round, 2852 people voted for all 962 files
In the second round, 2919 people voted for the 50 finalists (the top 30 overall and top 2 in each category)

We congratulate the winners of the contest and thank them for creating these beautiful images and sharing them as freely licensed content:

157 people voted for the winner, an image of a lightbulb with the tungsten filament smoking and burning.
In second place, 155 people voted for an image of "Sviati Hory" (Holy Mountains) National Park in Donetsk Oblast, Ukraine.
In third place, 131 people voted for an image of a swallow flying and drinking.

画像色調整の件

さかおりさんがアップロードした国交省航空写真などの画像で緑色が強く気になったいものを拾い出して補正（調整）しています。初版アップロード者の了解を得ないまま進めて居りますが、問題がありましたら差し戻しを行ってください。新たにアップロードされる画像の色調整の強要やアップロード済みに対する変更要請などと言う事は、一切行いません。今まで通りのアップロードを継続してください。--Togabi (talk) 08:47, 23 October 2017 (UTC)Reply

はじめまして、こんにちは、桜螺旋と申します。いつも執筆された記事を興味深く拝見しております。今回はFile:Dr. Sugiura-kenzo.JPGについてお願いがあってまいりました。この画像の作者がさかおりさんとなっているのですが、その部分はこの像の作者を記入する部分にあたります。もしこの像の作者ではないのであれば、File:SaigoTakamori1332.jpgやFile:Yasukuni-jinja 100.jpgなどを参考に情報を追加してくださらないでしょうか。また著名な彫刻家でなければ没年をお教えいただけないでしょうか。--桜螺旋 (talk) 13:28, 17 December 2018 (UTC)Reply

桜螺旋さん、はじめまして。ご指摘のファイルですが仰せのように銅像の作者は私ではありません。ライセンスに疎かった昔にアップしたファイルとは言え、そのまま放置してしまい恥じ入るところです。この銅像は風土伝承館杉浦醫院所蔵のもので、銅像の作者や作成時期などを伺うため風土伝承館杉浦醫院に電話したのですが、あいにく本日は館長（私の素性もご存知の方です）がお休みとのことで明日以降改めて確認させて頂きたいと思います。よろしくお願い致します。--Sakaori (talk) 01:47, 18 December 2018 (UTC)Reply

連絡が遅くなり申し訳ございません。調査の途中経過を報告させていただきます。件のブロンズ像の作者は、現在の神奈川県相模原市出身の笹野恵三という彫刻家で、銅像が作成されたのは杉浦健造が亡くなった翌年の1934年（昭和9年）、この時、笹野恵三氏は39歳であることまでは判りましたが、没年に関しては現段階では判明しておらず、引き続き調査を行いたいと思います。どうぞよろしくお願いいたします。--Sakaori (talk) 03:07, 27 December 2018 (UTC)Reply
