Hello, fernando decillis (decillis fernando.com) should have sent you an email giving the permission for anybody including commercial usage as you requested. Can you check if you receive it so that I can get the picture unlocked? Regards, Giovanni

Hello Giovanni, the only permission we received from this address (in December) allows us "to use the image on Wikipedia" which is not sufficient. The copyright holder needs to specify a free license (see COM:CT). I'd be glad to restore if you could arrange such an agreement. Regards, →Na·gy 16:11, 16 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

Hello Nagy, the photographer of this picture sent an email yesterday giving the required permission. What should I do now? Re-upload the picture or will you unlock the old one I did upload before?

Here is forwarded the photographer's email and Wikipedia's reply.

Thank you, Giovanni

Hi, Nagy. I saw you're an active administrator in the Commons. The user Herbythime deleted the photos File:Chuky el muñeco.jpg, File:Chucky 1.jpg, File:Chucky 2.jpg, File:Chucky 3.jpg and File:Chucky 4.jpg, because they're ou of project scope. I understand his decission, but can you make me a favor? I need those pictures for personal use only. I won't upload these pictures every time. Hi, I noticed that you replaced Logo with PD-textlogo on this image. However, the way the text is stylized, I believe it is eligible for copyright. For example it seems that even the Google logo is eligible, because of the way the letters are stylized. --Tryphon (talk) 20:41, 12 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

File:Skunk fursuiters.jpg edit

Can you be more specific about what was unlawfully "derivative" about this work (and hence of File:Skunk fursuiterscropped.jpg)? I know the guy who uploaded it, and he's not the kind to intentionally violate anyone else's copyright. Photographs of costumes per-se are not derivative works according to Wikimedia counsel. GreenReaper (talk) 17:05, 31 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

I would never accuse anyone of uploading copyvios intentionally, except it's obvious... In this case we got a complaint by the costume's creator who doesn't wish to see these images on Commons. If Mike as a pro could confirm this particular request in the OTRS to be void I'd be glad to restore. Thanks, →Na·gy 19:13, 31 March 2009 (UTC)Reply
If that was the reason, then I personally have no problem with the deletion, as it is common practice within the furry community to take down such photographs on request. I just feel it was just incorrectly labeled. GreenReaper (talk) 05:34, 9 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

Your email has been received by the COM:OTRS, no doubt, but obviously it takes some time until an OTRS volunteer is able to process it. I kindly ask you to simply ignore the "No permission"- warning as it's just a little aid to stay on top of things, it will be removed as soon as one of our Portuguese-speaking volunteers handles your message. Hi, Nagy. In this edit you altered the policy to a guideline. I think we should keep it a policy, as this isn't really a guideline, but something that should be followed. Thoughts? Thanks. --Kanonkas(talk) 15:20, 15 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

Well, I have no objection in being reverted here. As both templates currently link to the same page it is a little hard to see the difference and, of course, it is all a matter of interpretation. Maybe w:Wikipedia:Policies and guidelines#Policy and guideline pages (also w:Guideline) puts it slightly better. You're given free hand on how to proceed, albeit I am still confident of this change. All the best, →Na·gy 17:32, 15 April 2009 (UTC)Reply
I agree with you. The revocation part is kind of why I think this is justified as a policy. As that part kind of tells you what to do, and all users should follow it. Exceptions can be given, but I doubt so in the case of it being abused in an edit dispute. The rollback page is a bit more explicit if it's being abused. However, as you say above - it's not a big deal, just a bit different. Best regards, --Kanonkas(talk) 13:31, 16 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

Brad Sugars edit

Hi!

You deleted File:Brad Sugars.jpg without giving me sufficient time to respond to the copyvio notice. The bot has erred in filing a copyvio, and the person who marked it as a copyvio did not follow up on elementary checks.

There are three elementary reasons why the image is not a copyvio:

 1. The resolution and filesize of the image higher than all that the bot listed. At almost 8 Mb, it cannot be a copyvio to low resolution images available online.
 2. The images that the bot chose, and this image are similar, but not the same.
 3. Permission has been obtained from the copyright holders and filed under OTRS (https://ticket.wikimedia.org/otrs/index.pl?Action=AgentTicketZoom&TicketID=3017395) You can verify this independently.

Please could you restore the image? Thanks! Zithan (talk) 14:04, 25 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

Oh well, please excuse any inconveniences. I didn't notice the OTRS template due to some error on the image description page.   Restored.Nagy 20:07, 25 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

Hello, Nagy!

Tip: Add categories to your files

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.

Are you an Admin? I haven't been on since august 2009. Apperently every single Canada Post photo I scanned and uploaded is against some policy I didn't know about when I did my original collection and research and scanning. How or who can get the entire categories or photos speedy deleted for me. This is a strong request from Canada Post Police. I told them I would try WayneRay (talk) 20:08, 20 January 2010 (UTC)Reply

Hello Wayne, I think this request by Canada Post should go directly to COM:OTRS. I don't see why they should prosecute you, especially as most files in Category:Canada Post Miscellaneous Tags appear to fit under PD-ineligible. Photos/Publisher edit

Hey, the permission that I sent about many images was accepted, but it also said that I have to get a permission form the publisher or the photos will be deleted again.

The book from which I took the images is self-published. The author is also the publisher.

I got permission from the author, so shouldn't that be enough ? Shouldn't the images be safe from any deletion and shouldn't the warning message on the images information be cleared?

Please reply. Thanks. J10452M (talk) 14:54, 20 April 2012 (UTC)Reply

First I have to say that there is no need to remove your question from COM:ON, it will be archived automatically in order to keep the discussion available in the future (just in case there are any queries). Regarding your question, if the publisher is willing to give permission to make your files available under a free license, he should forward a statement to the OTRS team via email. If the publisher is also the author of the book, this will not be a problem. Please also note that any warning messages will be removed by the OTRS volunteer in charge. Thank you, →Nagy 17:10, 20 April 2012 (UTC)Reply

Bucket Shop edit

I guess by definition I do run a "Bucket Shop". However this isn't how I make my living and in the United States where there are no titles of nobility, lords, ladies or sirs, we don't take the strict rules of heraldry too seriously. This has been the trend here for more than 50 years. I have been a genealogist for over 40 years and have an extensive library of heraldry and have redrawn these coat of arms in a large size and good resolution (200dpi) so others can see and use them if they want. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.73.154.77 (talk • contribs) 15:16, 21 April 2012‎ (UTC)Reply

Grüße, →Nagy 19:46, 10 May 2012 (UTC)Reply

File:Alex_Mitchell_-_journalist.JPG edit

Hi, I notice that you deleted a file I uploaded: File:Alex_Mitchell_-_journalist.JPG saying in the edit summary: "no matching ticket found, will be restored if permission is granted". I submitted permission from the photographer twice via email to the permissions address; would it be possible to submit the permission directly to you via email? Thanks. -AndrewMitchell36 (talk) 20:12, 3 June 2012 (UTC)Reply

Cheers, please let me know the exact date and time the mails have been sent, I will look for them again. Correspondence via COM:OTRS is always more favorable since every volunteer will be able to track the goings-on. Thanks, →Nagy 22:31, 3 June 2012 (UTC)Reply
Thanks very much for looking into this. I sent the original permission email to permissions-commons@wikimedia.org on Mon, 02 Jan 2012 01:56:42 +0000 with the subject line 'Fwd: Re: Licensing photo of Alex for Wikipedia etc.'. I then resent the permission email on Tue, 20 Mar 2012 21:35:44 +0000 with the subject line 'Declaration of consent for File:Alex Mitchell - journalist.JPG'. -AndrewMitchell36 (talk) 08:24, 4 June 2012 (UTC)Reply

File:2d_political_spectrum.svg edit

Created a "blank" SVG version of the file 2d_political_spectrum.png which can be annotated with overlay text in any language and is also more accessible. Do you happen to know where I could go to get help translating the code?--Abel (talk) 12:31, 20 June 2012 (UTC)Reply

Great work. COM:VP should be the right place for a localization request, but for a broad participation it might be necessary to bring it up on local versions such as COM:FORUM. Thanks, →Nagy 18:39, 20 June 2012 (UTC)Reply

Image de Frédéric Souterelle edit

or else (I speak little English)

I protest, the image is not a violation of law as the photographer himself agreed and therefore permission to publish the photo as long as it is mentioned in the legend, and this is what was done.

This is also the French actor himself who sent me the photo for me to enroll on the wiki explaining what I just said above. --Skarock (talk) 09:33, 3 October 2013 (UTC)Reply

Foto entfernt edit

Finde so was demotivierend angesichts der vielen Mitarbeiter. --Huberbe (talk) 20:22, 3 May 2014 (UTC)Reply

Gruß, →Nagy 07:00, 4 May 2014 (UTC)Reply

I do not see any explanation on the users talk page [3]

What permission are you looking for? James Heilman, MD (talk) 10:21, 1 August 2015 (UTC)Reply

Dear James, thanks for your message. Please review the comment provided along with the deletion: We've been in touch with the uploader, but the permission we have is not sufficient. Please also note the permission is missing since the file was uploaded back in March. But it won't be a problem to restore this image if we receive the information we need. File:Sandiacre Lock Up.jpg edit

File:Sandiacre Lock Up.jpg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

Dear Nagy, I would like to let you know, I had downloaded my friend's picture (Miss Nazanin Boniadi) in Wikimedia Commons and used it in her English and Persian topic's page. During download process , probably wrong licence type has been choosen ( I am not familiar with rules ) and it get deleted by you. As I explained before in that picture's talk page I have permission to use it in Wikis by owner of picture and also she knew very well that picture would be contribute and anyone can use it after. She is famous actress and well known so has million pictures but This picture have been used in her personal website in internet. by above information could you please kindly help me to restore that. regards Farid69 (talk) 18:56, 1 February 2017 (UTC)Reply

Clarification of Lauren McCrostie image permission edit

Hello Nagy! Firstly, I have emailed the author of the image and he gave me explicit permission to use his work and he emailed a copyright permission declaration to OTRS to make his work free to use under licence Creative Commons Attribution/Share alike 4.0, Secondly, the source link has the copyright owner's name credited at the end of the article. Fault Magazine is not the copyright holder of the image so I did not contact them. The image does not appear on the copyright owner's own website so I used the Fault Magazine link which explicitly shows the creator/author of the image. Thirdly, I forgot to add Template:Nonfree with permissions tag when I uploaded the image to Wiki Commons to signify the image was for publicity by the copyright owner on a website other than his own and he gave me permission to use that image seen on Fault Magazine website. Please let me know what else needs to be done to have this image accepted by OTRS. Cheers! (KittyLover (talk) 02:40, 9 February 2017 (UTC))Reply

Good morning KittyLover! Adding the "OTRS received" template does not necessarily mean we cannot process a permission. But I have to admit the template is quite unprecise as it states the message was not sufficient. Basically my intention was to create a link between the file and the ticket in OTRS. However there were issues that prevented me from handling the ticket straightaway: I was unable to check Fault Magazine's website, but the wording of the permission required me to do so. Indeed I can access the link now, so I will go ahead, close the ticket and place the regular PermissionOTRS on the description page. Best regards, →Nagy 07:46, 9 February 2017 (UTC)Reply

Thank you Nagy! Cheers! (KittyLover (talk) 01:33, 10 February 2017 (UTC))Reply

Please participate in the Universal Code of Conduct consultation on Wikimedia Commons! edit

Dear Nagy

Thank you for your hard work to create the sum of all knowledge that is freely sharable to every single human being across the world. As our diverse community grows, we need a guideline that will help all of our work collectively and constructively where everyone feels safe, welcomed, and part of a team. That is why the Wikimedia movement is working on establishing a global guideline called the Universal Code of Conduct, often referred to as UCoC.

After the months-long policy consultation, we have prepared a policy (available in many languages) that has been ratified by the Board of Trustees. We’re currently in the second phase of the process. During this round of consultation, we want to discuss the implementation of this policy. As a member of the functionary team of Wikimedia Commons, your opinion on enforcement is of great value. We want to hear from you on how this policy can be enforced on the Wikimedia Commons community and what might be needed to do so. There are a few enforcement questions so you can easily outline your answers based on them. Please do not hesitate to bring any more questions/challenges you think are not yet discussed.

The discussion is taking place on Commons:Universal Code of Conduct consultation. You can also share your thoughts by replying to this message (Please ping me so I get notified), posting your message on my talk page. I am aware that some thoughts cannot be expressed publicly, so you can always share your opinion by emailing me as well.

As a valued member of the Commons community, please share your thoughts, ideas, and experiences that relate to UCoC. Let us know what needs to be improved so we can build a more friendly and cooperative space to increase editor engagement and retention of new users.

Wikimedia projects are governed by you. So, it is you who needs to step up to ensure a safe, comfortable, and pleasant working environment.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Thank you! Wikitanvir (WMF) (talk) 10:18, 5 February 2021 (UTC)Reply

Please take a short survey regarding UCoC edit

Hello Nagy,

I would like to inform you that we now have a survey in place to take part in the UCoC consultation. It is not a long one and should take less than 10 minutes to complete. You can take the survey even if you have already participated in the on-wiki consultation. It has a different set of questions and allows you to participate anonymously and privately.

As a member of the Commons functionaries, your opinion is especially essential. Please click here to participate in the survey.

You are still welcome to participate in the on-wiki discussions. If you prefer you can have your say by sending me an email. You can also drop me an email if you want to have a one-to-one chat.

Thank you for your participation! Wikitanvir (WMF) 13:54, 12 February 2021 (UTC)Reply

How we will see unregistered users edit

Hi!

You get this message because you are an admin on a Wikimedia wiki.

When someone edits a Wikimedia wiki without being logged in today, we show their IP address. As you may already know, we will not be able to do this in the future. This is a decision by the Wikimedia Foundation Legal department, because norms and regulations for privacy online have changed.

Instead of the IP we will show a masked identity. You as an admin will still be able to access the IP. There will also be a new user right for those who need to see the full IPs of unregistered users to fight vandalism, harassment and spam without being admins. Patrollers will also see part of the IP even without this user right. We are also working on better tools to help.

If you have not seen it before, you can read more on Meta. If you want to make sure you don’t miss technical changes on the Wikimedia wikis, you can subscribe to the weekly technical newsletter.

We have two suggested ways this identity could work. We would appreciate your feedback on which way you think would work best for you and your wiki, now and in the future. You can let us know on the talk page. You can write in your language. The suggestions were posted in October and we will decide after 17 January.

Thank you. /Johan (WMF)

Hello,

I am messaging you because a contest for a sound logo for Wikimedia is being developed and your opinion as a Wikimedia Commons admin is appreciated. My team would like to know if it is possible for the top finalist sound logos in the contest to have attribution temporarily hidden from public view until all the votes are final? The idea is to let the public judge the sound logo contestants based on the merit of the logo, not the person or people who made it. Again, any feedback is appreciated.

Thank you,
