Hi Dyolf77, When tagging images like this one (it was a bank logo) - Please remember to tag them as copyvios - Tagging them under "No permission" is Assuming Good Faith which is great but pointless when it's obvious the logo isn't the work of the uploader and more to the point in a nice way it saves wasting editors time (I've copyvio-tagged it), Thanks & Happy editing. –Davey2010^Talk 20:51, 28 March 2017 (UTC)

Hi Dyolf77, You nothing to be sorry for :), Usually all logos that are uploaded here are copyvios (technically if the logo fails COM:TOO then you could find the logo > update the source > and then change the license but in short that's above my paygrade and we both have better things to do than to start flaffing around with other peoples crap but anyway just wanted to leave a quick note,

Hi there,

I don't actually have a strong opinion regarding Commons:Deletion requests/File:موظفة بشركة اتصالات .jpg, but it's a little unsettling to see a DR closed as keep by an admin who was also the only keep vote, when there were three other people advocating deletion. Valid reasons were given. Whether or not those reasons are accurate is a fair discussion to have, of course, but it wasn't a clear cut example of, say, someone nominating an image because "I don't like it" or because of an obviously incorrect copyright claim... — Rhododendrites ^talk |  22:59, 17 November 2017 (UTC)

Thanks for this reply. Most of my experience with deletion discussions is on the English Wikipedia. I know the rules for closing deletion discussions there are different from here, but I was surprised to see this. I don't know how much of my surprise is because I'm unfamiliar with procedure. Regardless, I should have responded in the DR to your clarification before it closed. I did read it, but being someone in telecommunications rather than at the company doesn't quite convince me that it's in scope. In my opinion there is no way this is anything but copyvio, given the source, and the uploader history of playing template "bingo" to see if they can get something/anything to stick (see deleted contribs). For me, the fact that they cleared their talkpage with no response when I asked for evidence of permission was enough. Still, it's cool if you still want to assume good faith. I believe I tagged the png File:A Mile in Her Shoes.png to be deleted not the jpg, because the jpg is a better format for images and the file size is significantly smaller, about half the size. OK, here's the de-confusion explanation, I hope. I was reviewing the png image for copyright status and found the original file online was a much higher resolution but the image had been converted by the uploader to png, so I could not upload a jpg over a png, so I converted the jpg to png. But then, I thought better of that decision and uploaded the full size jpg version and asked that the png be deleted. If I had not uploaded the high resolution png this problem would likely not have been an issue but I see where you were coming from. In fact both images had the same resolution but the jpg is better suited for photos and the file size was much smaller, despite the same resolution. Maybe you can reverse the deletion but if it's too much bother then don't bother. Thanks anyway. Ww2censor (talk) 16:38, 11 December 2017 (UTC)

I noticed you recently uploaded a higher-resolution version of File:Stansted Airport - monorail station (geograph 4693192).jpg. Where did you get it from? I ask because the version you uploaded is 1920 × 1080 pixels, but the version on Geograph Britain and Ireland (the named source) is only 1600 × 900 pixels. Ahla Dyolf77, J'espère que ta nouvelle mission à Commons te plait ! On est entrain de discuter sur comment transférer des fichiers des projets arabes dans Commons. Je sais que Commons est plus strict mais pas à ce point. Comme pour ces fichiers en-bas, j'ai reçu une notification qu'ils ne sont pas bons. Mais je comprends pas vraiment c'est quoi qui manque comme information. je les ais modifiés mais ce n'était pas suffisant. On a environ 5000, je veux pas avoir une longue liste dans ma page de discussion. Est-ce que tu pourrait voir ces fichiers pour identifier ce qui y manquait. Autre chose, est-ce qu'il y a un moyen de récupérer les photos si elles sont effacées sur Commons. Au pire les remettre sur AR wikisource ou AR wikipedia. Ça presse pas, prend ton temps. Yes, now the file is in use again. But it was not in use before... Sorry about that. But there are still two questions left: 1. Why does Nemigo create a logo of a company in plain text, which is in fact not the real logo of that company? 2. Why does Nemigo use a wrong abbreviation in upper- and lower-case letters (Astano) and not the correct abbreviation in upper-case letters only (ASTANO)? Avant de diffamer les gens, vous seriez bien aimable de me dire le travail de QUI je m'approprie : j'ai fais l'article de A à Z, c'est MOI, par exemple et entre autre, qui ai pris en photo l'autographe (qui est d'ailleurs la SEULE photo qui existe), c'est MOI qui ai pris en photo la plaque. Je vous mets au DEFI de prouver l'inverse : quand on accuse, on apporte des preuves. C'est HONTEUX d'accuser les gens comme ça, et d'effectuer arbitrairement une censure sur les droits d'autrui suer la base de je ne sais quelle supposition, et en plus de priver les gens d'un inédit utile au savoir.

(vous voudrez bien excuser mon ton, mais se faire accuser de voleur alors qu'on est le propriétaire, et qu'on cherche juste à donner un élément informatif, c'est un peu fort !)

However, I feel like this does not give respect to my actual request, which is valid: The image is a hoax, Nintendo SPD does not and has never had an official logo as it acts anonymously under Nintendo itself. The image was either created or found-and-recycled by user Arkhandar and uploaded without any source information. As such, hoaxes are out of scope and should not be in use anywhere, regardless if it is actually in use or not. Multilingual captions beta testing

The Structured Data on Commons team has begun beta testing of the first feature, multilingual file captions, and all community members are invited to test it out. Captions is based on designs discussed with the community[2][3] and the team is looking forward to hearing about testing. If all goes well during testing, captions will be turned on for Commons around the second week of January, 2019.

Multilingual captions are plain text fields that provide brief, easily translatable details of a file in a way that is easy to create, edit, and curate. Captions are added during the upload process using the UploadWizard, or they can be added directly on any file page on Commons. Adding captions in multiple languages is a simple process that requires only a few steps.

The details:

• There is a help page available on how to use multilingual file captions.
• Testing will take place on Beta Commons. If you don’t yet have an account set up there, you’ll need one.
• Beta Commons is a testbed, and not configured exactly like the real Commons site, so expect to see some discrepancies with user interface (UI) elements like search.
• Structured Data introduces the potential for many important page changes to happen at once, which could flood the recent changes list. Because of this, Enhanced Recent Changes is enabled as it currently is at Commons, but with some UI changes.
• Feedback and commentary on the file caption functionality are welcome and encouraged on the discussion page for this post.
• Some testing has already taken place and the team are aware of some issues. A list of known issues can be seen below.
• If you discover a bug/issue that is not covered in the known issues, please file a ticket on Phabricator and tag it with the “Multimedia” tag. Use this link to file a new task already tagged with "Multimedia."

Known issues:

• Search is not currently working on Beta Commons. Search is not needed for testing captions, but service should be restored soon.
• Language name display inconsistencies in multilingual file captions
• Language names for multilingual File captions can run into the caption value in the mobile view
• Deleting a caption field that has text that exceeds the limit does not re-enable the "publish" button
• "Edit" tab for past revisions should be "restore"
• When using the back button, recently added captions sometimes don't display in Chrome
• File Captions can't be edited on mobile browsers
• Wrong font weight for some language labels on SDC captions box

JPEG copies of TIFFs

As established by several community discussions, retaining LOC jpeg versions of the archive file is normal and supported. There are, literally, hundreds of thousands of these, especially useful due to problems with the thumbnailer rendering poor quality versions of TIFFs when returning images for Wikipedia articles.

Please undelete File:Alice C. Evans, Facter(.) in Dairy Division, Dept. of Agrl. who studes microscopic organisms and their relation to health, flavor and keeping qualities of dairy products LCCN2016824533.jpg, File:The Royal Prison and the St. Sophie Church, Altstadt, Dresden, Saxony, Germany-LCCN2002720568.jpg and any others from the LOC collection that were speedied under the same rationale.

WRT upscaling, please refer to the project page at User:Fæ/LOC#Upscale_jpegs.

@Adam Cuerden: TIFF files are scaled differently. JPEG files are assumed to be photos and the scaling method is optimized for that, but this would hurt text and shapes with high contrast. PNG, GIF and TIFF scaling is not photo-optimized. We've also seen some strange bugs with TIFF. It should never be used in an article. - Alexis Jazz ^{ping plz} 15:09, 19 December 2018 (UTC)

@Alexis Jazz: Yes... but these aren't files that are useable in articles in the first place. They're surrounded by extraneous black borders, and the TIFFs are labelled with {{Original}}. I wouldn't have suggested deletion of a full-sized copy, but seriously, what use is a scaled-down copy of something no-one would ever use on a Wikipedia? Especially one that isn't even linked with a notation as to what it is. I could see a template at the top of TIFF files, explaining an exact JPEG copy exists at File:XXX.jpg, and briefly explaining why. What I can't see is a JPEG copy just sort of... hiding out there... somewhere... with nothing on the TIFF explaining what it was and why it existed. If they're useful, especially with JPEG restorations and the like, and when neither they nor the TIFF are in use by any Wikipedia, I really do NOT understand how. Okay, look, the Saint Sophie's church one is at least older. But as I've said over on the deletion request, please explain the Alice Evans one, uploaded a year and a half after both the TIFF and the restored versions (JPEG and PNG), under a different file name to the TIFF version. 1. As you can read in COM:SELFIE

"An otherwise non-educational file does not acquire educational purpose solely because it is in use on a gallery page or in a category on Commons, nor solely because it is in use on a user page (the "User:" namespace), but by custom the uploading of small numbers of images (e.g. of yourself) for use on a personal Commons user page is allowed."

2. I doubt an educational value of these selfies with the van.

3. The user is blocked because of creating another account and keeping uploading selfies after warning.

4. If the user wants to become a contributor he would start uploading other photographs than selfies and avoid to be blocked in wiki projects (e.g. ar.wiki).

But if you think that these images have to be kept, I suggest you to request undeletion of them.

I was unaware of multiple accounts. I'm not sure there is a good rationale to block both accounts. It's also not clear that the second account was made for abuse. The account has the same name, just in another language. Unless there are even more accounts, I would suggest unblocking User:Mohammed Nazem Raddad Al - Salami and giving them instructions (in Arabic) to use m:Special:GlobalRenameRequest and refrain from uploading more selfies. - Alexis Jazz ^{ping plz} 14:43, 19 December 2018 (UTC)

"Abusing multiple accounts to mislead, deceive, disrupt, distort consensus or to evade blocks or other sanctions. Secondary accounts are typically blocked indefinitely. The primary account may or may not be subject to new or extended blocks depending on the circumstances."

So Dyolf there wasn't any abuse taking place here - My best guess is they created the account maybe to see if registering in Arabic would work and once blocked probably remembered the account - I don't understand why they have 2 accounts nor do I understand why they continued to use the Arabic account after being blocked on their English-named account (I gave them warnings in Arabic but it was from Google-Translator so maybe it didn't make sense to them and simply put they didn't understand a word of what was said),
