old colonial coat of arms for the city of Kitwe in Northern Rhodesia modern day Zambia

Hello! I notice you made the Federation of Rhodesia and Nyasaland coat of arms a couple years back. You did an amazing job on it and was wondering if you would consider doing the old coat of arms for Kitwe, a lot of it is the same:

Question on the Finnish coat of arms (monarchy version).

Hello Fenn-I-maniC,

This might be a weird question, since I'm asking about an upload you did way back in 2012, but out of curiosity - where'd you get File:Coat of Arms of Kingdom of Finland (1918-1919).svg from? Is there a source for that you can add to the image description page? I can tell it's just the normal Finnish Coat of Arms with a crown on top, but is there a source on where this came from, if it was ever actually used, etc.? (This came up because I was recently editing the English article on the topic and was curious where this came from, since it seems like the plan for a Finnish monarchy didn't actually get very far...) SnowFire (talk) 00:55, 9 June 2020 (UTC)

It's essentially just the Finnish coat of arms with a typical royal eight-arched crown on top. During the early years of independence the grand princely crown with just six arches continued to be used for some time. Given the hectic times and the short period the plan to establish a kingdom had a proper support I'm not entirely sure if there ever was legimitate moves to officially change the coat of arms to have an eight-arched royal crown so the one I made years ago is more like a hypothetical representation of such. --Fenn-O-maniC (talk) 05:02, 9 June 2020 (UTC)

File:Zone économique exclusive de l'Union européenne4.png

Hello.

Can you remove the United Kingdom and add South Sudan in File:Zone économique exclusive de l'Union européenne4.png?

I am adding the border of South Sudan and remove the UK from maps. Unfortuntely I cannot do this with SVG files and sophisticated (for me) PNG files.

Yours sincerely, Maphobbyist (talk) 09:17, 16 July 2020 (UTC)

Would you do a couple of flags?

Hello! It's-a me again. I have found two flags of Finnish cities of which Commons has photos, but no vectorizations. And who better to ask than you? As such, I present these flags:

As a heraldry nerd, it pleases me greatly to see heraldically correct banners of arms being used, and I wish that more places would use them. But whether or not you accept this request, just know that your work is invaluable, whatever you choose to do. Yours truly, VulpesVulpes42 (talk) 12:23, 22 July 2020 (UTC)

Sure thing! --Fenn-O-maniC (talk) 13:59, 22 July 2020 (UTC)
Wow, thank you so much! ...Maybe I'm cheeky here, but I wanted to find even more city flags. I read somebody's report of Kokkola using a banner of arms, and sure enough, I found it after some searching. Here is an image on Commons, and because it's always good to have multiple sources, here two flags can be seen outside the city hall.
BTW, just as a fun side note, I also found the flag of Pietarsaari/Jakobstad, but then I noticed that you already had done it. Well, aren't you fast? Anyway, loving your work as always. I shall make sure to add your beautiful images to articles that would benefit from them. Regards, VulpesVulpes42 (talk) 17:11, 23 July 2020 (UTC)
Thanks! Good find, I'll add Kokkola to the worklist as well. --Fenn-O-maniC (talk) 18:13, 23 July 2020 (UTC)

Flags of Loviisa and Vantaa

I seem to not be giving you any room to breath at all, really sorry for that. After this one, I'll make sure to let you catch your breath.
While I personally am biased in favour of heraldically correct banners of arms, I can't blame any editor uploading and objectively describing various forms of de facto flags (even if I think that Loviisa's "flag" rather feels like an unheraldic decorative banner.) With that said, since you did upload it recently, I have one thing to add. From some images that I found (1, 2, 3, 4), the bottom bars seem to be wavy rather than straight.
While I'm writing, I might as well share some info regarding the flag of Vantaa. I found many images online of the heraldic design in pennant form. But I also found this page describing the "flag of the city of Vantaa". Unfortunately, the image only shows a flag obscured by itself, due to the lack of wind. But from the little detail that can be interpreted from the smaller middle flag, it looks like it very well could be a square banner of arms, separate from the more well-documented pennant. Would you consider uploading it? Thanks for everything, and sorry for not giving you any rest. —VulpesVulpes42 (talk) 19:23, 23 July 2020 (UTC)

Good catch! I'll make Vantaa's one tomorrow, I found another picture and it's indeed a banner of arms. --Fenn-O-maniC (talk) 19:47, 23 July 2020 (UTC)
Vantaa's done now. Also I think it's good to keep in mind that most of these flags are seldom used and often are seen as just flag versions of the official coats of arms. I believe it's better to use the coats of arms as symbols for the municipalities when only one of the two can be used in wikipedia articles for example. --Fenn-O-maniC (talk) 05:43, 24 July 2020 (UTC)
Thank you. Yes, I agree with that the arms are the primary symbols of municipalities, and that this form of heraldic flag is essentially just another form of displaying the arms. But I still think that these files are very important, because lots of people use Wikipedia, and I hope that people around the world may see these beautiful flags, and be educated about things such as banners of arms, and quality heraldic design. If they are seldom used, I think that it's even more important that they are shown, so that people who visit Wikipedia maybe will see what their municipality's flag is supposed to look like.
I don't know if this is the case in Finland, but in Sweden, the official position of the government is that the proper design for municipal flags is a banner of arms. Just like in Finland, they are still essentially seen as just the arms in another form. My home municipality uses its one daily, as does the neighboring municipality of Stockholm. But respect for, or even knowledge of proper practice is not universal, and many places use improper arms-on-bedsheets or logos-on-bedsheets instead. I will of course keep what you have said in mind, but your files are of high value nonetheless. Anyway, might have gotten sidetracked there. Take care. —VulpesVulpes42 (talk) 07:36, 24 July 2020 (UTC)

A request for help with a heraldry file

Hi Fenn, I'm a fan of your heraldic work. I recently rehauled a file of mine, File:Julie Payette full heraldic achievement.svg, and, as you can see, I used slightly modified assets for lions as the supporters. Unfortunately there are no lynx SVG files available that match with the Sodacan-esque style of the file. I have very little experience with creating assets, so I was wondering if I could request you to help by trying to make appropriate lynx supporters? It would be greatly appreciated! I also attempted to make a suitable astronaut helmet for the file, but I'm not sure if it is good enough; you can try to remake it if you choose, but I don't know if it's necessary. Thank you very much, Di (they-them) (talk) 22:15, 26 July 2020 (UTC)

I'll see what I can do with them! --Fenn-O-maniC (talk) 06:01, 27 July 2020 (UTC)

More municipal flags

My message had simply become ridiculous, so I'm deleting it and presenting a tidier list:

  • Västanfjärd: 1, 2 (last image of the article), 3
  • Föglö: 4, 5, 6
  • Vårdö: 7
  • Heinola: 8
  • Hyvinkää: 9 (second image of the article), 10
  • Kaarina (1955–2008): 11
  • Laitila: 12
  • Jokioinen: 13, 14, 15 16 (first, fourth, and last image of the page)
  • This one is interesting. It seems to be the flag of Pyhäranta. But it stands out as it seems to not be a simple banner of arms, but rather a specially designed flag, combining the charge from the arms with the addition of a golden wavy side. Whoever came up with it probably has heraldic and/or vexillographical taste: 17, 18
  • Rusko: 19
  • Rovaniemi: 20
  • Lieksa: 21
  • Raisio: 22, 23, 24
  • Pyhäjoki. This is the first one that I have found through a PDF rather than a photograph. Page 12 shows both a heraldically improper "arms-on-bedsheet", as well as a proper banner of arms: 25
  • Lapua: 26

Arms of William Russell, Lord Mayor of London

Dear Fenn-O-maniC

I have seen your impressive contributions to civic heraldry.

Unusually in modern times, my friend Lord Mayor Russell is to serve two years as Lord Mayor of London until 2021.

In English heraldry a serving head of a corporate body* may impale its arms with those of his family, thus William's shield is City of London (dexter) impaling Russell (sinister):

Much obliged if you could be so kind as to create an image of Lord Mayor Russell's coat of arms for Wiki use whilst he is still in office?

Locator maps of Finland´s provinces

Hi. As you probably know, 1.1.2021 have chanded boudaries between finish provinces. Some municipalities have changed their affiliation to the province. I don´t have skills in vector grafic, so I wish to ask you to creates map with actual borders.

Perhaps - to produce 19 new files (one for each province) similar to, for example, "File: Etelä-Savo.sijainti.suomi.2010.svg", but with a change in the name of the new file "... 2021.svg". Could you please do that? Other files that should be repaired are "File: Finland location map.svg" "File: Finland physical map.svg". You created the current status yourself, for example, in the file "File: Regions of Finland labeled SE.svg".

Thanks in advance, --Unpocoloco (talk) 10:29, 22 January 2021 (UTC)

I've already done locator map for each of the regions, all can be found in Category:SVG locator maps of regions of Finland (location map scheme). I did away with the year specification in the file name as it was always a hassle to update the files in the various Wikis the files were used in. Now the files themselves can be updated without the need for cross-wiki file changes. --Fenn-O-maniC (talk) 15:03, 22 January 2021 (UTC)
Hi again. I see now. Great, thanks. I didn´t see it behore. Anyway, can you fix the pictures File:Finland adm location map.svg, File:Finland location map.svg, File:Finland physical map.svg and File:Finland rel location map.png please? There are very often used in tempate LocMap in many wikis. --Unpocoloco (talk) 17:04, 22 January 2021 (UTC)

Hattula map with border transfers

Hi. You have recently created detailed maps about the former municipalities of Hämeenlinna area, thanks for the great work! I wonder if you could make similar maps about Hattula by utilising the existing material?

As far as I know, the border changes of Hattula include the following.

  • 1967 - Northern part of Vanaja joined to Hattula; an area in Parolannummi, close to Hämeenlinna centre joined from Hattula to Hämeenlinna
  • 1971 - Tyrväntö joined to Hattula
  • 1978 - Northern part of Tyrväntö joined from Hattula to Valkeakoski
  • 2009 - Southern part of Hattula joined to Hämeenlinna.

On the national arms of Finland

Hello again! I noticed that you a couple of months ago left a message on this talk page, where you wrote that you had made a new vectorization of the national arms of Finland based on a better source. You did however add that "The file would need to be unprotected for any updates". I just wanted to check by to tell you that the file indeed seems to be unprotected since some time now. Request to fix the faulty vectorization of the arms of Congo

Hello Fenn-O-maniC! Thank you for your work on improving Wikipedia vectorizations of heraldry and other emblems. Your recent re-work of the emblem of Djibouti is top tier.

Some time ago I've noticed the image of the arms of Congo does not match the blazon. I've checked a few sources and they seem to differ not only in the tusks color, but also have slight differences in the depiction style. I ask you to improve https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Coat_of_arms_of_the_Republic_of_the_Congo.svg if you have the opportunity because I know you will do it justice.

Here are a few references I have gathered:

Coat of arms of Burkina Faso

Hello again! I have been looking for color reference for the arms of Burkina Faso and accidentally found what is likely to be the original emblazonment, or at least one of the few. As you have been making lots of great contributions to African heraldry vectorizations lately, I decided to bring this to your attention. The emblazonment can be found here: link, as well as in this official document. For comparison, the passport emblazonment seems to be identical, including the shield frame and book shape, the sole difference being, not counting presence of the larger shield, the lack of coloration on the passport: link 1 and link 2. Thank you again for your contributions. — Dughorm (talk) 15:20, 4 April 2021 (UTC)
