Image:Arabic Language.svg edit

It begins with a medial "La" ligature, not with "Al-", and the two last letters don't seem to join together properly... AnonMoos 15:42, 29 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

In any case, the font you're using has various compromises and tricks to accommodate low-resolution computer displays (such as slanting rows of dots above a single letter, etc.) which means that it's less than an aesthetically ideal rendition of classical "naskh" Arabic scipt. AnonMoos 00:03, 30 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

By the way, I fixed this image a while back. It's presumably true to your original intentions, but it's still not beautiful calligraphy. AnonMoos 19:57, 27 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Banaba map edit

Hi the map of Banaba that you made Image:Banaba Island.svg is very nice but you should precise on the map the date (1936) cause later there had been more land exploited for Phosphate so it's not an actual map but an historical one. Maybe you will be interested on several map I made of Nauru the neibourgh of Banaba Category:Maps of Nauru, cordialy --Kimdime69 03:27, 19 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

Unfortunaly I don't know any recent maps of Banaba, you should just put on the description and on the map Historical map of Banaba (1936), maybe you know that explotation of phosphate ended in this island years ago and that the majority of the population was removed on an over island so the location of populated areas must be zrong know, an aver suggestion (but optional) is to give to your map an old fashion style, for exemple using old fashion fonts as I made or the translation in french of an historical map of Nauru Image:Nauru land utilization-fr.png wish initialy was like that [1]
If you can clean my maps it's great, how do you do it? Just don't do it in Image:Map of Nauru topo-fr.svg cause soon I will put an updated version, cordialy--Kimdime69 16:38, 19 February 2007 (UTC)Reply
Nice work, I made a french svg version of it changing few things, the appearence of the coral riff and is layout (on the canoe channel and on the boat harbour), of the railway, the color of the banaban villages, a black frame, added some words, Océan pacifique sud =South pacific ocean, barrière de corail= coral reef, i added also Structures cantlever wich is cantilever structures where the phosphate was downloaded on the boats, it wasn't in the original map but I know it's that cause it's the same in Nauru. If you want I can do those changes in the english version, cordialy--Kimdime69 01:12, 20 February 2007 (UTC)Reply
Yours is realy nice too ;) i putted it in all Banaba articles in wikipedia in diferents languages except mine;). If you want me too change the font, just ask. I use Illustrator wichis a very good vector software. But I have some little problem whith it, the biggest is that commons never recoganize the font (even the normal one) I use so Ihave to expand it before downloading, an over point must be the one you detected, the solution would be to download the files first in Inkscape and then in commons, but I tryed several times too download Inkscape on my mac and never succeded, cordialy--Kimdime69 10:18, 20 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

Image:Christian cross.svg edit

Because HatesWM2 reverted to the version of 17:16, 27 January 2006, so I reverted to my version of 23:19, 11 June 2006 to increase the default display size, and to try to ensure that background is always white, not gray (as it says in my file upload summary of that date). That was easier than downloading your version and comparing it with my version at an SVG code level. AnonMoos 19:57, 27 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Non-PD images edit

Hi Indolences,

I noticed that a large number of the works you produce are svg copies of existing works on the Commons, which you then release under Public Domain. Many of these images, however, were initially released under a different licenee, such as GFL or CC. Some example that I found after a quick browse of your gallery include

etc. etc.

These images must retain the original copyright license, since they are derivatives of those works (and, in many cases, the author of the works need to be specified). It would be great if you could go through these at your convenience and replace the PD tag with the correct copyright tag.

Thanks! — Asbestos 14:29, 11 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Hi again,
First, I don't actually care about the credit (especially since, for images such as mine which are dual-licensed, you probably don't need to since GFL doesn't require credit. For images that are just CC w/ attribution, such as Image:Aerocapture.png, this is still a requirement).
Second, PD doesn't trump everything else. The original images are all copyrighted, even though they are under open-source licenses. Most open-source licenses, such as GFDL, are what's known as "viral" (see our explanation), which means that all derivative works need to you either the same license or a similar license (depending on the exact license used). For GFDL, for instance, we can look at the text of the license (here), where it says
You may copy and distribute a Modified Version of the Document under the conditions of sections 2 and 3 above, provided that you release the Modified Version under precisely this License
So you can see that GFDL requires all derivateve works to be released under GFDL. CC is quite similar.
This isn't a huge problem — I just noticed it when I was looking at some of the svg versions of my images — but it is one that should be fixed. The best way to fix it is to replace the PD license on all your derived works with the original license & author on the work (with the note that you are the author of the derived version).
Let me know if you have another other questions,
Thanks! — Asbestos 16:34, 11 April 2007 (UTC)Reply
I saw you made some changes -- thanks so much! BTW, I didn't want to take away any of your credit for the work you've put into these. You still can (and should!) mark yourself as the new author in the summary. I'm sure most people here are really appreciative of the work you've done with the svgs, I know I am. So, while you don't need to cite yourself as one of the authors, I think people should take credit for good work. Thanks again! — Asbestos 17:46, 12 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

If you have not created the media yourself then you should also specify where you found it, i.e., in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page. If the content is a derivative of a copyrighted work, you need to supply the names and a licence of the original authors as well.

If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag, then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then you can use cc-by-sa-3.0 to release it under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike license or PD-self to release it into the public domain. See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

The PD-author-Tag you used always needs an author-name as parameter, else it will always throw an error, e.g. name of the author. As soon as you restore that tag, you can also remove the part I added with "no source" in the first row. -- Cecil 20:51, 12 October 2007 (UTC)Reply
Well I am not the creator of the image, but I did get permission via email to release to the public domain. Do I need to file a OTRS thing? Also why isn't wikitext working? --Indolences 20:12, 12 October 2007 (UTC)Reply
That with the text was me. Seems I haven't closed the nowiki-Tag. Sorry. And yes if you have a mail please forward it to otrs. -- Cecil 20:51, 12 October 2007 (UTC)Reply
Ok I sent it to otrs but i don't have the code thing yet. They replied saying thanks though.I've never done this before, am I doing something wrong? -Indolences 20:02, 16 October 2007 (UTC)Reply
I don't know how exactly they work at OTRS, but I think they need to check your information and then they will either send the ticket number and change the picture description or they will have more questions. -- Cecil 20:12, 16 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

Hi. Sorry for not responding to your question for so long. I think legally even small changes (like making these colages) allow a separate license. And creating these images was about 1 hour of work each, primarily looking for suitable images. Eps to Svg edit

Hello Indoleces, I noticed that you updated Image:NOAA logo.svg with a better version produced from an EPS. What's the procedure for converting png's to eps's and then svg's? If there's a way, that would be a time saver, as i draw most of my svg's by hand. What's the software to use? Thanks, Badseed 00:11, 12 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for the tip! Maybe i can get my hands on an old version of Illustrator, even though i prefer to run Linux lately, so there might be a free alternative. Drawn by hand doesn't mean that everything is done by hand; for example, for the NOAA logo the "bird" circular was done by node editing and cutting paths with a circle, while the letters were traced and then corrected by hand to remove tracing artifacts as surplus nodes etc. For totally geometric patterns lately I edit directly the XML code - Badseed 01:38, 12 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

Hello, Indolences!

Tip: Add categories to your files

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.

laurel wreath .SVGs edit

I like your Image:Laurel_wreath.svg , and also (by a deleted user) Image:Greek_Roman_Laurel_wreath_vector.svg (used for the Hellenismos portal and many articles about Greek subjects,) but I'm surprised neither has branches, only leaves. If they had branches to look reasonably realistic, such designs would probably become much more popular, as nice for personal use wall art (I'd use it for that.) If public domain rather than other Creative Commons, maybe academic/philosophy organizations would want to use them.--dchmelik (t|c) 08:11, 4 April 2018 (UTC)Reply

Your picture "laurel wreath" is based on the flag of the UN, as you stated on the image yourself. The similarity is unmistakable. The flag of the UN shows a olive wreath. That also explains the concern of User:Dchmelik. A laurel wreath has branches, and looks overall more corpulent. People on wikipedia now used your design as a template, and put olive wreaths all over their logos and flags, thinking that they depict a laurel wreath. Please submit your picture for deletion and upload it as olive wreath.--Truthlobby (talk) 18:36, 18 May 2018 (UTC)Reply
