Tip: Add categories to your files

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

[[Category:Category name]]

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

[[Category:Astronomical diagrams]]

[[Category:Comets]]

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

Wikimedia Commons is happy to announce that the second round of the 2013 Picture of the Year competition is now open. This year will be the eighth edition of the annual Wikimedia Commons photo competition, which recognizes exceptional contributions by users on Wikimedia Commons. Wikimedia users are invited to vote for their favorite images featured on Commons during the last year (2013) to produce a single Picture of the Year.

Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year were entered in this competition. These images include professional animal and plant shots, breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historical images, photographs portraying the world's best architecture, impressive human portraits, and so much more.

There are two total rounds of voting. In the first round, you voted for as many images as you liked. The top 30 overall and the most popular image in each category have continued to the final. In the final round, you may vote for just one image to become the Picture of the Year.

The 2013 Picture of the Year competition has ended and we are pleased to announce the results: We shattered participation records this year — more people voted in Picture of the Year 2013 than ever before. In both rounds, 4070 different people voted for their favorite images. Additionally, there were more image candidates (featured pictures) in the contest than ever before (962 images total).

• In the first round, 2852 people voted for all 962 files
• In the second round, 2919 people voted for the 50 finalists (the top 30 overall and top 2 in each category)

Auch in diesem Jahr beteiligt sich Deutschland wieder am internationalen Fotowettbewerb rund um Bau- und Kulturdenkmale. Bisher wurden bereits mehr als 18.000 Bilder hochgeladen – und wir würden uns sehr über weitere Bilder von Dir freuen. Noch bis zum 30. September 2016 kannst Du Deine Bilder hochladen. Distanzsteine

Der Nutzer Adnon hat eine Liste der Distanzsteine in Sachsen-Anhalt mit Unterlisten für die einzelnen Kreise erstellt. Um die weiter auszubauen, würde ich gern Deine Steine verwenden. Konkret geht es um den Stationsstein 0,73 (DVZ-Nr. 094 40441). Bei dem fehlt die Position. Kannst Du da weiterhelfen? Falls Du die genaue Position nicht preisgeben willst, würde auch eine grobe Position oder zumindest der Ortsname reichen, um ihn einordnen zu können. Ich vermute stark, dass es sich um keinen Stationsstein handelt, sondern eher um einen Kilometerstein, denn Du hast ähnliche Steine in Oranienbaum fotografiert: Marktstraße & Dessauer Straße. Alle drei ähneln einem Kilometerstein in Halle. Zudem finde ich kein Foto von einem dritten "Distanzstein", der in der Dessauer Straße in Oranienbaum "gegenüber der Orangerie" (was auch immer das heißen mag) stehen soll (DVZ-Nr. 094 40383). Kennnst Du diesen Stein zufälligerweise auch? Auf Bildern der Orangerie kann ich ihn nirgends ausmachen.

Meine Meinung nach sind alle drei Steine (den dritten von Oranienbaum kenne ich nicht als Foto) Kilometersteine und keine Meilensteine. Daher würde ich die von der Kategorie "Anhaltische Meilensteine" bzw. "Meilensteine im Landkreis Wittenberg" in die Kategorie "Kilometer stones in Saxony-Anhalt" verschieben. Dort könnte man ja wieder einen Unterordner "Anhaltische Kilometersteine" anlegen. Zu diesen gehört z. B. auch der Stein neben dem Meilenstein in Neudorf, den Du mit fotografiert hast. Auch das Bild könnte also zusätzlich die Kategorie "Kilometer stones in Saxony-Anhalt" (oder gleich "Anhaltische Kilometersteine") bekommen. Man sieht derartige Steine häufiger in Anhalt (ich habe z. B. einen in Dohndorf fotografiert, da ist das Textfeld aber nicht so schön zu erkennen wie bei Deinen Funden).--Hallogen (talk) 16:21, 29 September 2019 (UTC)

Hallo Hallogen, ich habe die Position mit Absicht nicht eingetragen. Dieser und weitere stehen im Stadtgebiet von Dessau. Von ca. 25 Stück aus Sandstein sind fast 10 verschwunden oder beschädigt. Auch der gegenüber der Orangerie vom Schloss Oranienbaum ist nicht mehr vorhanden. Ob Nr. 0,73 ein Stationsstein ist kann ich nicht mit Quellen belegen. Dieser und ein weiterer sind die einzigen die ich gefunden habe mit 2 Stellen hinter dem Komma. Bei einem Abstand von 75m, später geändert auf 100m, macht eine Angabe von 0,73km für mich kein Sinn. Aber auf der Wikipediaseite "Meilenstein" steht folgende Erklärung: Bei der Vermessung wurden als unterteilende Einheiten alle 75 Meter sogenannte Stationen gesetzt. Die Stationssteine wurden gemäß ihrem Standort nummeriert, wobei die Zahl vor dem Komma die Meile von Dessau her angab und die Zahl nach dem Komma anzeigte, die wievielte Station der jeweiligen Meile sie war. Der Stationsstein Nr.73 vor dem ersten Meilenstein ergibt einen Sinn. Da die Steine nach der Änderung von Meilen in Kilometer wiederverwendet wurden kann man vermuten das dieser mit Farbe beschriftet und neu aufgestellt wurde. Bei dem in der Marktstraße von Oranienbaum und anderen die ich gefunden habe ist das so.

Wie das alles Sortiert werden kann ist Ansichtssache. Egal ob Distanzstein, Myriameterstein, Meilenstein, Kilometerstein oder Kilometer und Meilenangaben auf einem Stein das gehört doch alles zu einem System. Dann gibt es noch die Steine welche in Wikipedia noch nicht mal erwähnt wurden. Es sind kleine Granitsteine alle 100 Meter und große Granitsteine jeden vollen Kilometer. Diese sind auch nur noch in einigen Dörfen vorhanden. Gruß M_H.DE 19:36, 1 October 2019 (UTC)

Das Verschweigen der genauen Standorte kann ich gut verstehen. Leider wird alles mitgenommen, was nicht niet- und nagelfest ist. Wir haben bei den Meilensteinen ständig genau dieses Problem und man glaubt gar nicht, wo man die alles wiederfindet: Privatgrundstück, Gartenanlage, Firmengrundstücke, Müllkippen usw. Das Argument mit der zweiten Kommastelle finde ich durchaus schlüssig, da so detailliert ausgearbeitete Dezimetersteine sehr ungewöhnlich wären. Der Stationsstein 0,73 wäre demnach der Stein kurz vor dem Erreichen der Dreiviertelmeile. Bisher kennen wir aus Anhalt nur Ganzmeilensteine, sowie in Anhalt-Bernburg auch Halb- und Viertelmeilensteine (die sind nicht ganz so hoch wie die Ganzmeilensteine). Es wäre nicht schlecht, wenn wir uns dazu mal genauer austauschen könnten, da ich im nächsten Jahr einen Artikel zu den Meilensteinen in Anhalt veröffentlichen werde. Der ist zwar schon eingereicht, aber in diesem geht es ohnehin erstmal nur um die zwischen Dessau und Harz, so dass es sich anbieten würde, aus den Stationssteinen und aus den Myriameter-/Meilensteinen von Dessau-Roßlau einen zweiten Teil zu machen. Ich werde bei künftigen Fahrten durch Anhalt auch stärker darauf achten.--Hallogen (talk) 09:23, 13 October 2019 (UTC)

Ein Artikel über die Meilensteine hört sich Interessant an. Ich habe gegen ein Informationsaustausch zu dem Thema nichts einzuwenden, da gibt es noch einiges was auch mich interessiert. Die Standorte der meisten Steine sind für jeden sichtbar, aber man nimmt sie kaum war zwischen Hecken, Unkraut, Grenz- und Ziersteinen. Ich werde versuchen in der nächsten Zeit mal meine Fotos zu sortieren und hochzuladen.M_H.DE 16:37, 18 October 2019 (UTC)

Da ich selbst haufenweise Steine habe, bei denen ich mit mir ringe, ob ich sie veröffentlichen soll, weiß ich umso mehr zu schätzen, dass Du das für Deine Gegend gemacht hast. Da ich mittlerweile mit zu vielen anderen Themen zu tun hatte (u. a. Wikipedia-Schreibwettbewerb und Vorbereitung mehrerer Artikel zu Meilensteinen, die in diesem Jahr erscheinen werden), habe ich Anhalt etwas aufgeschoben. Ich wollte mal vermelden, dass es Kilometersteine mit 3 Kommastellen gibt. Ich habe einen in Weißandt-Gölzau gefunden und auch im Jerichower Land gibt es welche vom selben Typ. Das soll Dein Argument aber nicht anfechten, sondern das Bild nur ergänzen. Die Steine sind deutlich jünger und eindeutig 20. Jahrhundert, deine Funde hingegen sind recht sicher alle 19. Jh. Ich habe die Uploads von Adnon mal als Category:Kilometersteine im Landkreis Jerichower Land zusammengefasst. Verstehe ich das richtig, dass Du dein Kategorie Distanzsteine genannt und zu Meilensteinen sortiert hast, weil einige Kilometersteine eventuell vorher Stationssteine waren? Es sind ja mehrheitlich Kilometersteine und daher fände ich es auch als Unterkategorie von Kilometer stones in Saxony-Anhalt sinnvoll. Hallo Hallogen, wenn du eine Idee hast die Steine zu sortieren dann mach das doch einfach. Was diese alle gemeinsam haben ist der Nullpunkt. Das Denkmal vom Alten Dessauer auf dem Marktplatz. Die Nummern, welche ich den Kilometersteinen zugewiesen habe, entsprechen dem Abstand zum Denkmal so wie der Wegverlauf früher einmal war. M_H.DE 19:37, 22 April 2020 (UTC)

Wiki Loves Monuments 2021

Ich hab grad in der de:Liste der Kulturdenkmale in Lutherstadt Wittenberg gesehen, dass du wieder zahlreiche schöne Fotos hochgeladen und eingebunden hast und da morgen WLM losgeht, bekommst du auch die offizielle Einladung, die die Teilnehmer, der letzten drei Jahre bekommen haben, mit dieser persönlichen Ansprache :-)

Bald ist es soweit: Vom 1. bis zum 30. September 2021 findet zum elften Mal der internationale Wettbewerb Wiki Loves Monuments statt. Dabei können Bau-, Boden- und Kulturdenkmale fotografiert und die Fotos hochgeladen werden. Du hast nicht an einem der vergangenen Fotowettbewerbe teilgenommen, aber du lädst immer tolle Fotos von Wegesteine, Wassertürmen und Mühlen hoch. Deshalb laden wir dich gern ein, dieses Jahr mitzumachen. Wir freuen uns auf deine Fotos!

Obwohl es den Wettbewerb seit über zehn Jahren gibt, sind immer noch viele Motive überall in Deutschland zu fotografieren. Im Herzen Deutschlands in Thüringen und in Niedersachsen sind neue Denkmallisten entstanden, die auf Fotos warten. Übrigens in der Hauptstadt Thüringens in Erfurt findet dieses Jahr die WikiCon vom 1. bis 3. Oktober statt. Dies könnte man mit einem Foto-Kurzurlaub vor der WikiCon in Thüringen verbinden …

Vor dem Hintergrund der Flutkatastrophe 2021 haben wir auch drei Sonderpreise ausgelobt. Damit sollen Fotos prämiert werden, die Kulturdenkmale zeigen, die zerstört wurden. Das Foto kann das Objekt vor oder nach der Zerstörung zeigen.

Für die Suche nach Motiven gibt es bei Wikipedia zahlreiche Listen und Karten. Als Einstieg hilft diese Übersichtsseite. Weitere Informationen erhältst du auf der Mitmach-Seite.

Du bist interessiert, am Wettbewerb mitzuwirken, dir fehlt aber die richtige Technik? Dann wirf doch mal einen Blick in den Technikpool und das Technikleihportal von Wikimedia Deutschland! Dort findest du Kameras, Objektive und Zubehör verschiedenster Art.

Außerdem laden wir Dich ein, ab Anfang September 2021 an der Vorjury teilzunehmen. Diese bewertet die hochgeladenen Bilder und ermittelt so gemeinsam mit der Jury, die im Oktober tagt, die Sieger von Wiki Loves Monuments 2021 in Deutschland. Das Vorjurytool ist hier bald freigeschaltet. Du benötigst dafür nur deinen Benutzernamen und das Passwort.
