Image Sources

Hi :)

I've noticed that you've been marking yourself as the creator of a few of the tropical cyclone imagery (ex: the current image of Severe Tropical Storm Edilson). However, this isn't correct, NASA was the actual author; please keep this in mind for the future.

Also, when adding in images, please add the date as well to the file name, ex: "Edilson 7 February 2014.jpg".

Dear Wikimedians,

Wikimedia Commons is happy to announce that the second round of the 2013 Picture of the Year competition is now open. This year will be the eighth edition of the annual Wikimedia Commons photo competition, which recognizes exceptional contributions by users on Wikimedia Commons. Wikimedia users are invited to vote for their favorite images featured on Commons during the last year (2013) to produce a single Picture of the Year.

Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year were entered in this competition. These images include professional animal and plant shots, breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historical images, photographs portraying the world's best architecture, impressive human portraits, and so much more.

There are two total rounds of voting. In the first round, you voted for as many images as you liked. The top 30 overall and the most popular image in each category have continued to the final. In the final round, you may vote for just one image to become the Picture of the Year.

Dear Typhoon2013,

The 2013 Picture of the Year competition has ended and we are pleased to announce the results: We shattered participation records this year — more people voted in Picture of the Year 2013 than ever before. In both rounds, 4070 different people voted for their favorite images. Additionally, there were more image candidates (featured pictures) in the contest than ever before (962 images total).

• In the first round, 2852 people voted for all 962 files
• In the second round, 2919 people voted for the 50 finalists (the top 30 overall and top 2 in each category)

We congratulate the winners of the contest and thank them for creating these beautiful images and sharing them as freely licensed content:

1. 157 people voted for the winner, an image of a lightbulb with the tungsten filament smoking and burning.
2. In second place, 155 people voted for an image of "Sviati Hory" (Holy Mountains) National Park in Donetsk Oblast, Ukraine.

You, at least, unlike others, can speak English, so I don't know why you completely failed to regard the very prominent notice saying Please do not skip advisories when uploading new versions of this file. The only useful reason for which Commons will keep this file after the storm's dissipation is thanks to the file history, and without that, the file is of no use to Commons. Two things...

1) Please do not skip advisories as you have done with File:01C 2015 5day.gif. It messes up the file history.

S.: For both 1 and 2, I knew I kind of messed up on uploading because my computer is stupid and won't start the animation track or go back into the files etc and that's for the EPac, CPac and Atl seasons because all 3 are from the NHC. For some reason, the software on Commons is automatically changing the file extensions of files I uploaded to capital letters for file extensions, or something of the sort in any case because I specifically made sure to enter lowercase "gif" into the title parameter after the first messup, only to find that it had automatically capitalized the file extension anyway. NZ election poll graph

I had only reverted it once. If you have spoken to the original uploader then obviously that's okay, but because I can't read minds (at least not over the internet mwahaha) it would have been helpful if you had said in your overwrite that you were given permission to do so. I am a fan of having a margin of error present and the party colours being more accurate, if you'd consider looking into doing that i'd be grateful. Thanks. Categories

Please do not just create new categories when a depression intensifies into a storm. Use the move function. For instance, you say I "wasted my time" at Category:Tropical Depression Seventeen (2017), but I made no mistake. Please read the timestamps; the National Hurricane Center had not named the system at the time, yet you inappropriately added it to a (nonexistent) "Tropical Storm Ophelia" category anyway. Tropical Depression Nineteen

Just making sure you are aware that you are displaying false information in the description for both the satellite image and the track. The storm is not named Rina or a tropical storm so it is incorrect to display it as such in the description. You should wait until the NHC designates the storm as Tropical Storm Rina before adding that. Typhoon2013 Now that the storm is officially designated as Rina by the NHC, it is acceptable to be displayed as such. I just wanted you to understand that you can't jump the gun with this. You have to wait until the NHC officially designates names in advisories. I noticed a few days ago that you had renamed File:05S Geostationary VIS-IR 2018.png to File:Joyce Geostationary VIS-IR 2018.png. While this is needed (and a fully reasonable rename), the Australian Bureau of Meteorology did not upgrade Tropical Cyclone 05S to Tropical Cyclone Joyce until a full day after the file was moved. In the future, it might be best to wait until after the storm is upgraded and given a name before performing the renaming of the geostationary file; we cannot be certain that the storm will strengthen into a named storm, and indeed there are many circumstances where these forecasts do not pan out as intended.

A simple real-world comparison to illustrate: You removed the entire text of a page from a thick folder, but the then empty, useless page itself remained in the folder.

Please use {{speedy| type reason here }} and add it on top of the page you would like to have deleted; This way it will be placed on a special list that administrators check regularly for deletion. Without this it might take a long time before it's noticed.

WorldView Images

Hi,

Just a silly question, but I had noticed that when you were uploading images taken from NASA's WorldView, you had also included a UTC timestamp in the file name. I was wondering where you had gotten the timestamp from, as I cannot seem to find it when I browse the WorldView database (and it seems everyone else using the database can).
