Hi, welcome back. Majorly talk 21:29, 23 March 2009 (UTC)

It's a cheerful thing to see that you're still around, somewhere. :-) —Anonymous DissidentTalk 13:18, 26 March 2009 (UTC)
Thank you both - and Anonymous Dissident, good luck with your RfB on enwiki. I'll probably head over and express an opinion on it in the next day or two. WJBscribe (talk) 13:24, 26 March 2009 (UTC)
Your input is appreciated, as is your well-wishing. —Anonymous DissidentTalk 05:54, 27 March 2009 (UTC)

Another question

Do I look so high or excited or upset when speaking to editors? Although I was a little upset about the situation (I have no interaction with the user in question and have respected Future even though I have disagreed with his strong enforcement to image policies) , but I thought I really said to him calmly. Anyway, I apologize for my overreaction for your advice and am glad with your return.--Caspian blue 01:18, 29 March 2009 (UTC)

It did come across as a bit aggressive, but I suppose it is understandable if you think that Future Perfect has indefinitely blocked an innocent user because his images have been widely copied by other websites (rather than the other way round). It also seemed like an argument you were having with Future Perfect on enwiki was spilling over here and I was keen to avoid that happening. I would like to see a bit more evidence that those images came from other websites - but I do think it suspicious if a large number of his images are showing up on unconnected websites.
By the way I notice that you uploaded some of those images to Commons from enwiki. I hope you realise no criticism of you is implied in Future Perfect's nomination - if they were copied, you didn't know that. WJBscribe (talk) 01:24, 29 March 2009 (UTC)
Thank you for the advice.--Caspian blue 01:28, 29 March 2009 (UTC)

Just FYI, I've added some more data to the nomination. Sorry from my side too if I came across as aggressive, but I've had to waste a lot of time hunting down this one and it's not nice to be forced to waste yet more time collecting "evidence" just because there's someone demanding more shrubberies. Fut.Perf. 09:00, 29 March 2009 (UTC)

Now deleted. Normally I would have done so simply on an enwiki admin's request but as Caspian clearly felt there'd been some mistake in deciding these were copyvios, I thought it best to look into it further. WJBscribe (talk) 10:11, 29 March 2009 (UTC)
Thanks, okay. Fut.Perf. 12:49, 29 March 2009 (UTC)
Thanks, Fut.Perf. and WJBscribe. Fut.Perf. your new evidence on the food images is very strong, and sorts out the case very well. My AGF the user did not work, but I did not assume you lied about you stance at all. I tend to feel very sorry about loosing any good photographers from Wiki. I could not persuade two good and prolific photographers to stay when they were leaving the project for good after they felt frustrated over Wiki system.--Caspian blue 13:01, 29 March 2009 (UTC)

Sorry to bother you again. It seems I forgot to list a few:

Same uploader, one of the still of the same food series. Could you take care of them just like the rest? Thanks, --Fut.Perf. 21:18, 30 March 2009 (UTC)

Sure, no problem - all 4 now deleted. WJBscribe (talk) 11:01, 31 March 2009 (UTC)

AWB permission

Hey, Could u approve me as AWB user? I need this for the Deutsche Fotothek as fast as possible. You can see my request on Commons_talk:AutoWikiBrowser/CheckPage--Diaa abdelmoneim (talk) 09:27, 3 April 2009 (UTC)

Yes - looks fine to me. Done. WJBscribe (talk) 19:26, 3 April 2009 (UTC)
Thanks a lot.--Diaa abdelmoneim (talk) 23:02, 3 April 2009 (UTC)
I'm sorry but I also would like to be flagged as a bot, to allow auto save mode. I simply look for pages with "VEB Nähmaschinenteilewerk Dresden" or similar and replace uncategorized with Category:VEB Nähmaschinenteilewerk Dresden . Auto save would certainly make my life easier and I would always use pre-parser mode before starting to make sure no mistakes occur. --Diaa abdelmoneim (talk) 23:47, 3 April 2009 (UTC)
I don't think your account can be flagged as a bot, as I presume not every edit you make from then on won't be as a bot. You could create a second account and ask for that to be flagged as a bot. See Commons:Bots and you can make a request at Commons:Bots/Requests for flags. A Commons bureaucrat will then give that account a bot flag if there is agreement that one is appropriate. WJBscribe (talk) 12:30, 4 April 2009 (UTC)

thanks

Will, thanks. It's good to see you're still around one of the WMF projects. Cheers.--Chaser (talk) 20:57, 17 April 2009 (UTC)

sexually explicit pics and commons scope

G'day WJB - I saw you posted at the deletion discussion for the 'birthday facial' image, and wanted to draw your attention to this thread I recently posted at the village pump. I don't think the thread itself is really going to be that productive for various reasons, but wondered what you thought about my suggestion that maybe media featuring actual sex isn't a great fit for commons? I wonder if you'd agree that were this project to consider it 'out of scope' it would probably be a good thing overall. I posted, and there's discussion about this, over at Wikipedia Review too, and personally, I hope to be able to get some indications of positive progress on some front in this area before too long.... cheers, Privatemusings (talk) 04:16, 10 January 2010 (UTC)

I seem to have missed the party. Not around on Commons as much as I used to be. I occasionally try and "prune" the vast number of - how shall I put it - intimate personal photographs that some people seem to enjoy posting here. It does seem to be a losing battle however... Approval needed for New Images

Greetings from Liberty, Missouri,

I am looking for someone to approve two images I uploaded today. Could you please help me? The two pics are:

Jacobus Arminius (1559-1609) Pastor, Professor, and Theologian Engraving by W. Swanenburgh, from I. Meursius, Athenae Batavae (1625). www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~netlapm/Image716.jpg

Simon Episcopius (1583-1643) Leader of the Remonstrants and primary writer of "The Arminian Confession of 1621" Engraving by W. Swanenburgh, 1625. www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~netlapm/Image718.jpg

I'll check back, Thanks SteveW (talk) 19:36, 15 February 2010 (UTC)

Seems pretty straight forward that any copyright in those images will have expired. They look fine to me. WJBscribe (talk) 00:35, 16 February 2010 (UTC)
Thanks! SteveW (talk) 04:30, 16 February 2010 (UTC)

CC licensing discussion

Could you stop by my userpage and look at the discussion concerning licensing of maps of the Maginot Line? From what I see, the images may be acceptable for use on the French Wikipedia (I'm not familiar with their policies), but with the CC-by-NC/ND tags on the original website, I don't think they're acceptable here, despite the good intentions of the uploader and the supportive attitude of the website owner. My French is not well suited to understanding French legal and copyright nuance. There's a link to the discussion they're having on the cartemaginot.com forum. We need your help at the Wikiproject medicine

Hello, Sorry for spaming your talk page, but this is very important. On the behalf of the Wikiproject medicine at the en.wikipedia, I am inviting you to be a part of the discussion going on the project's talk page about Patient images, The discussion started after I obtained a permission to more than 23000 dermatology related images, and about 1500 radiology images. As some editors of the Wikiproject medicine have some concerns regarding the policy of using patient images on wikipedia, and regarding patient consents. Also they believe that common's policy is not so clear regarding the issue. And since you are the experts please join us at this very important discussion -- MaenK.A.Talk 14:24, 20 March 2010 (UTC)

Template:Delisted

Template:Delisted has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this template, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

Ask for help

I find File:葉宜津.jpg on the Yeyijin(the people in the picture)'s Public Page which is likely uploaded by Yeyijin herself earlier than wikipedia. And Threedogs2005 insert infringing materials to Chinese Wikipedia. I have delete the infringing words on Chinese Wikipedia,But I don't know how to deal with this picture on commons.Thanks--Amazingloong (talk) 12:17, 22 November 2011 (UTC)

Looks like the image has already been deleted as a copyright violation by Túrelio. WJBscribe (talk) 00:44, 24 November 2011 (UTC)

User:Falerístico

You refused to unblock him some weeks ago. I do not believe that his "I want to vandalize"-phrase is serios but rather ironic. He contributes normally even in featured articles in the spanish WP, and he also contributed here in quite normally. I believe he can be unblocked.--Antemister (talk) 20:17, 29 November 2011 (UTC)

I wouldn't call this edit (repeated twice) contributing normally. It wasn't just an ironic phrase in an unblock message. Falerístico lost his temper when problems with his uploads were brought to his attention, vandalised a Commons admin's userpage with a Nazi flag and, after being blocked, asked to be unblocked so he could continue doing so. Such behaviour is not ironic and is not acceptable.
That said, I take your point that this appears to be an isolated incident. I think Falerístico should apologise to Martin H personally for his insulting and aggressive behaviour. If he agrees to make such an apology, then I would be willing to extend him a final chance - but on the strict condition that further problematic uploads or abusive behaviour would result in the indefinite block being restored. Hi

Hi, I found User:Comrade alexander had uploaded some non-free pictures in commons, and he used them in Chinese Wikipedia. Please check the pictures.File:北洋女师范学堂成立纪念.jpgis taken in 1906 and free now,But other colorful photo are not.--Amazingloong (talk) 13:05, 29 January 2012 (UTC)

Other Copyright infringement pictures File:Guomaobuilding.jpg and File:Guomaobuilding.jpg uploaded by User:千里走单骑. File:Guomaobuilding.jpg is from a newspaper media in China,File:Guomaobuilding.jpg is from a forum which is not free copyright.--Amazingloong (talk) 11:05, 1 February 2012 (UTC)

Thanks. It may be a little while before I have a chance to look into these. If you tag images you identify as copyright violations with {{Copyvio}}, they can checked by any adminstrator and deleted as necessary. It would be helpful if you could provide a link to the forum where you found the image. WJBscribe (talk) 00:34, 4 February 2012 (UTC)

Improve Commons:Deletion requests/File:Slow-motion-bouncing-penis.gif?

Hallo WJBscribe, do you want to improve your close of Commons:Deletion requests/File:Slow-motion-bouncing-penis.gif? Otherwise it goes to COM:UNDEL directly. Cheers --Saibo (Δ) 03:28, 4 February 2012 (UTC)

Use of revision deletion

Please note, as per this I have undone your revdel of 4 edits on COM:AN. Please familiarise yourself with COM:REVDEL and under what circumstances one may use revision deletion on Commons; the 4 edits in question are not covered by this policy. russavia (talk) 10:06, 14 March 2012 (UTC)

Noted. There's no need to refer me to the policy, I am familiar with the general rules (if not this very recently adoped Commons iteration of it). I felt on balance that calming any tensions I might inadvertently inflame by commenting too hastily in that threat warranted making deletions that beyond the strict ambit of the policy (given the summary I used on my deletions, I was hardly trying to avoid criticism or cover up!). I note that a consensus appears to have developped that this was an error on my part and therefore apologise. WJBscribe (talk) 23:56, 14 March 2012 (UTC)

De-adminship warning

Dear WJBscribe/Archive 2. I am writing to you to inform you that you are in danger of losing your adminship on Commons because of your inactivity in the past six months.

If you want to keep your adminship, you need both to sign at the current inactivity run page within 30 days of today's date, and also to make at least five further admin actions in the following six months. Anyone who does not do so will automatically lose administrator rights.

You can read the de-admin policy at Commons:Administrators/De-adminship.

Thank you, Trijnsteltalk 11:50, 24 August 2012 (UTC)

a heads-up

In 2011 you participated in Commons:Administrators/Requests/Jcb_(de-adminship 2). That discussion ended with User:Jcb losing his administrator privileges.

This note is to inform you that User:Odder proposed Jcb have unconconditional access to administrator privileges restored.

Commons:Administrators/Requests/Jcb (readmin) is scheduled to close on May 20th.

ArchiveBot

Hi, I noticed you have set up User:MiszaBot to archive your talk page. Unfortunately, the bot has stopped working, and given how its operator is inactive, it is unclear when/if this will fixed. For the time being, I have volunteered to operate a MiszaBot clone (running the exact same code). With that said, your input would be appreciated at Commons:Bots/Requests/ArchiveBot 1. Regards, FASTILY 07:37, 20 April 2014 (UTC)

Can I ask

Given the block on this user can I ask if you could put their domain on the Commons blacklist. I did indicate that it would be blacklisted if they ignored the warning so they are consciously abusing Commons. I'd do it myself without hesitation if I still had rights here. I'm watching the domain globally from Meta however there have only been a couple of links on en wp otherwise so I'd be pushed to globally blacklist it at present. Thanks & regards --Herby talk thyme 12:07, 12 August 2015 (UTC)

@Herbythyme: Sure, is the following syntax OK?
 # Spam by User:Avaclemes
 \etaxdepreciationschedules\.com.au
It's been a little while since I added anything to one of the blacklists. Does it need a "\b" at the end? I can't see any obvious variants not being spam. WJBscribe (talk) 13:32, 12 August 2015 (UTC)
PS. It's good to see you around. WJBscribe (talk) 13:35, 12 August 2015 (UTC)

If it were me..

#Per https://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?title=User_talk:Avaclemes&oldid=168308088
 \betaxdepreciationschedules\.com\.au

into MediaWiki:Spam-blacklist would be what I'd do (+ b & extra \ in mine) Good to see you too and appreciated. I tend to be around rather on and off these days. --Herby talk thyme 15:22, 12 August 2015 (UTC)

This is correct (i added it): \betaxdepreciationschedules\.com\.au\b. \b assert position at a word boundary and \ is to escape. --Steinsplitter (talk) 15:42, 12 August 2015 (UTC)
Thanks both. WJBscribe (talk) 16:21, 12 August 2015 (UTC)
