Question about an uploaded image
Hi Walter, I'm quite ignorant about copyright issues here, and wonder if you can point me in the right direction for explanations of policy. This image was recently uploaded and has been used in the English wikipedia. In appears to be a photo of a painting; the person shown was born in 1802, so copyright would seem to have expired. What are the requirements here for verifying that copyright has expired, listing the artist (if known), etc.? Thanks in advance for your help. Nadiatalent (talk) 13:52, 4 September 2012 (UTC)
- Hi Nadia; For images of art, two copyrights exist, in principle: (1) For the artwork itself. (2) For the photograph. For paintings, the photograph (without the frame) is unusually ineligible for copyright. That is because in Bridgeman Art Library v. Corel Corp. (1999), the New York District Court held that "a photograph which is no more than a copy of a work of another as exact as science and technology permits lacks originality. That is not to say that such a feat is trivial, simply not original".
- For File:Agustin Montilla.jpeg, the copyright tags should be {{PD-Art}} and {{PD-old-100}}, if the painter died prior to 1912. {{PD-Art}} may be omitted if the uploader took the photograph. This image should be tagged {{No source since}} with the explanation that the name and date of death of the painter must be given so that the PD-old-100 status can be verified.

Hello my friend,
Could you copy the content of {{Category redirect/sandbox}} into {{Category redirect}}?
Here is what I did:
- Step1: corrected bug: 'Gallery' is not a valid User talk because User talk returns an empty string for galleries. Prefer
- Step2: indentation following Rocket000 style (to avoid carriage returns)
- Step3: add parameter reason to allow to justify (in the future) the redirect
- Step4: detection of bad {{{category}}} parameter
Step 1 and 4 are really vital.

- Could you copy the content of {{Liné1SandBoxTemplate2}} in {{Category redirect/en}} ?
I added a parameter to allow to explain the redirect (I like justifications ;-)) - Could you copy the content of {{Taxonavigation/sandbox}} in {{Taxonavigation}} ?
I added a parameter nocat to allow desactivation of automatic categories
