Description
English: (Recto) Drawing of College barge on a sketching cruise Nettleston, Isle of Wight Sepr 27 1813 and drawing of Hardway Portsmouth Harbour Sepr 27th 1813 (Verso) Southsea Beach

No. 21 of 30 (PAH3772 - PAH3801)

(Recto) The two drawings on this sheet were drawn on the same day during one of Schetky’s sketching expeditions. The upper drawing shows the barge of the Royal Naval College Portsmouth with Schetky and his students sailing past Nettleton, a village four miles south east of Ryde on the Isle of Wight, which would have been within easy reach of Portsmouth. The lower drawing is a view of Hardway which was on the Gosport side of Portsmouth Harbour.

The drawing is inscribed in the upper right 'Nettleston/Isle of Wight/Sepr 27 1813', in centre of the sheet below the upper drawing 'College Barge on a Sketching Cruize' and on the right next to the lower drawing 'Hardway Sepr 27th/1813/Portsmouth harbour'.

(Verso) A drawing of Southsea beach which continues onto the reverse of PAH3793. It is inscribed 'South Sea Beach/ Nov 20th 1813'.
