When the Business College was opened in October,1897, rooms were set apart for its use which were expect-ed to give ample accommodation for some time to come,but in less than five years the department has entirely out-grown the space originally provided. The erection of the new Hall of Science will give tothe Business College the space heretofore occupied by thedepartments of Physics and Chemistry. With this additionthe Business College will occupy rooms aggregating over6,000 square feet in area. The sum of $2,500 is being spent in equipping the newquarters with office furniture, desks, files, filing cases,books, stationery, office devices, etc., in order that the stu-dents may become thoroughly familiar with the appliancesused in business, together with the customs and laws ofbusiness transactions. UNIVE Business College institution the latest and most practical devices in such amanner that they may comprehend and use them. There is a demand which we cannot supply for thosewho can both write shorthand and keep books. The sal-ary paid to those who are both stenographers and book-keepers is much larger than to those who are expert inonly one of these lines. The Business College offers thoroughly practicalcourses in Bookkeeping, Shorthand, Banking, Auditing,Telegraphy and Penmanship. It also offers instruction inSpanish and, where needed, in the common Englishbranches. Academic students are given three credits for eitherthe Bookkeeping or Shorthand Course and six creditsfor both Courses. For information concerning the con-ditions for obtaining credits see instructions under re-spective courses. The Bookkeeping Course. In this course students are trained in business andbookkeeping from the beginning. They are started inbusiness as soon as they enter. No time is spent in theo-rizing.
