d flat profile imitations of them. It isof slightly later date than the house, and was broughtfrom Eversley Manor House in the 19th century,replacing a poor Georgian stair. It opens by anexternal door on to the terrace, while a door oppositethe door from the hall opens into the dining room,which is of exceedingly fine proportions. It has alarge black and white marble mantelpiece of twoclassical orders and fairly simple design. On the wallsis some fine 17th-century tapestry in tones of whiteand blue-grey, and generally attributed to Englishlooms. En suite with this is a smaller drawing-roomknown as the Red drawing-room, with a plain 1 7th-century mantelpiece and panelling, and a billiard-room with an early Georgian mantelpiece. Openingfrom the last, and in the north-east wing, is a smallroom known as the garden room ; this is panelled inoak, and has an angle fireplace, with a carved oak17th-century mantelpiece brought from Moore PlaceFarm. HOLDSHOT HUNDRED EVERSLEY at the end of the terrace, and into a small plain apart-ment next to the entrance on the north-east front.The latter retains, within the porch formed by thebay, the doorway of an earlier house, a four-centredarch of two continuously-moulded orders of early 16th-century date. A paved passage from this originallyopened directly into the court, but now opens into apassage formed by the building, early in the 19thcentury, of a partition wall in the court. At the endof the court is a mullioned and transomed window offive pointed lights with a pointed main head, whichappears to be part of the earlier work. If this is insitu it is difficult to see to what part of the old buildingit belonged. The rest of the north-east wing is filledon this floor with small apartments of no particularinterest.
