OVERTON HUNDRED OVERTON died seised of the manor of Polhampton in 1560,leaving a son and heir Robert91 to whom HenrySmith and Elizabeth his wife quitclaimed their portionof the manor in 1S64.92 Robert died in 1609, leavinga son and heir Richard, to whom some eighteenyears before he had granted a ninety-nine years leaseof the manor in return for an annual payment offorty couple of rabbits between the months of Sep-tember and March.93 Richard Vaus dealt with themanor by fine in 1616,94 and again in 1618,95 butwhether he was seised of it at his death is uncertain.If he was his three daughters and co-heirs96 subse-quently parted with the manor, as a John Palmerdealt with it by recovery in 1683.97 It is now theproperty of Sir William Wyndham Portal, bart.
