BLACK LVr.K. 193 Beak one-tentli of an inch longer than broad, Phimage black inspring, yellow grey in the autumn, witb the wings and tail black.Length of male specimen sent me by Mr. Tristram, seven inchesand three-quarters; carpus to tip five inches and a quarter. The Black Lark is an inliabitant of nortlicrn climes.In Europe it is found in tlie precincts of the Wolgaand Istycli Rivers in Russia. It has been capturedrarelj and accidentally in Germany, and still more rarelyin Belgium. On the authority of Dubois we have therecord of one being trapped in the neighbourhood ofBrussels, in 1850, and which he found in the marketfor sale. The person who caught it assured M. Duboisthat there was a large flock, but he was only able toget one. M. Croegaert is also quoted by M. Dubois ashaving taken one in the neighbourhood of Anvers, in1852, and kept it alive during several weeks.
