CRESTED CO 01 TEREK GODWIT, 75 Specific Characters.—Eeat mucli turuecl up; tarsi short; middletoe sliglitly shorter than the tarsus; a white band across thewing, of which the under parts are pure white. Length eightinches.—Degland. The Terek Godwit is only an accidental visitor intoEurope. It is found thus wandering out of its realAsiatic home, on the borders of the Caspian Sea, andinto Southern Russia. According to Temminck it hasbeen killed in Normandy, and he says there is nodifference between these specimens and those which hereceived from Japan. The same author has recordedits capture near Paris. He says it strays into Europein bands of the Common Redshank. It is really anAsiatic bird, and is found plentifully in Sumatra,Borneo, and Japan.
