Sculpted by Robert I. Russin and donated by Rawlins, Wyoming, physician Charles W. Jeffrey in 1959, the statue rises above Interstate Highway 80 along the old route of the nation's first transcontinental highway, the two-lane Lincoln Highway. Nearby, too, is a smaller memorial to Henry Bourne Joy, the U.S. automaker who led the movement to create long-distance highways in the nation. |
