A century ago conditions in allnon-Christian lands were in every w^ay opposed to theevangelization of the people, and these forbidding con-ditions seemed altogether immovable. But during thelast century these conditions have changed. A mightypower has swept the barriers away. They no longerexist. One of the great barriers was exclusion. Great walls of adamant and gates of steel shut out West-ern nations and Christian missionaries. And theyshut these heathen people in, thus cutting off effectivecommunication.
