meda is a land-locked estuary calledthe San Antonio. It is connected at the westerly end with SanFrancisco by Oakland Creek, a deep-water stream, and on theeastern end with San Leandro Bay by a tidal canal. For boating the estuary is unexcelled. The water ranges indepth from five to twenty feet. There is no undertow, no boister-ous surf and no heavy winds. Its perfect sanitation, its smoothnessand its facilities give the very best conditions for the pleasures andadvantages of boating. At the north end of Chestnut Street, on the estuary, withineasy walking distance from the center of the city, is the clubhouseof the Alameda Boating Club. It was organized on January 2,1890. It has a membership of 100. The club owns its house andhas a number of racing and pleasure boats.
